Jennifer Aniston opens up about co-star crush in TV interview
Former Friends star Jennifer Aniston shed new light on her much-talked about crush on a co-star during this candid interview.
They’ve always been each other’s lobsters!
On the latest episode of US daytime talk show Live with Kelly and Mark, Jennifer Aniston reflected on her mutual crush with Friends co-star David Schwimmer.
With Ryan Seacrest filling in for Mark Consuelos and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes preventing actors from promoting their work, Live replayed a March 2023 interview with Aniston — the iconic actress who will forever be asked about her role on the hit ’90s sitcom Friends.
“You and David in the early years had a crush on each other,” Kelly Ripa pointed out, to which Aniston replied, “Yes, we did. We just let it play out on TV.”
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 30 years, Aniston and Schwimmer played Rachel and Ross in Friends. While the characters only officially date in the early seasons of the sitcom, they go on to have a baby together after a one-night stand and get hitched in Vegas (and divorced), before ultimately becoming endgame in the series finale.
During her chat with Seacrest and Ripa, Aniston confirmed that her first kiss with Schwimmer was, indeed, a TV kiss — aka that steamy Season 2 moment at Central Perk after hours.
When Seacrest asked if it was “weird” to kiss for the first time on-camera, Aniston admitted, “Well, no. It was quite enjoyable, actually.”
The two actors previously opened up about their infatuation with one another on Friends: The Reunion, which aired on Max back in May 2021. During the highly anticipated event, Schwimmer revealed that he had a “major crush” on Aniston during the show’s first season, to which she confessed that the feelings were “reciprocated.”
“At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary,” Schwimmer added. “We respected that.”
Regarding their first kiss at Central Perk, Aniston recalled telling her co-star that it would be “such a bummer” if the first time she and Schwimmer kissed was on national television.
“Sure enough, the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop,” she said. “So, we just channelled all of our love and adoration for each other into Ross and Rachel.”
There’s a reason they had all that chemistry!
