Irish reporter’s hilarious weather report goes viral
IRISH journalist Teresa Mannion’s live cross while being battered by rain during a storm has become an instant internet sensation.
IT’S been called an “Oscar worthy” performance.
Irish journalist Teresa Mannion’s live cross while being battered by rain during Storm Desmond in Galway, Ireland has gone viral, with the veteran reporter an instant internet sensation.
A drenched Ms Mannion was forced to yell into her large green RTE News microphone during the wet and windy cross as she explained the “treacherous” conditions in Ireland and pleaded for the public not to make “unnecessary journeys”.
While some praised her efforts in the difficult conditions, others found the video clip hilarious — including Ms Mannion herself.
“I can totally see how it’s comedy gold, but you’ve got to walk in my shoes for a moment,” she told RTÉ Radio 1.
“I was in my own little storm bubble and trying to do my job and deliver.
“I know we’re having fun with it and it is what it is,” she continued. “But we went to that location to say it was really dangerous ... It was very much about a public service.”
Ms Mannion said she was “gobsmacked” at the reaction, after gaining 3,000 followers on Twitter.
“I really am a saddo on Twitter,” she laughed. “If I get a few followers a week I’m happy — I can’t stop looking at the phone!”
She also says she was mobbed by children wanting selfies during her next assignment.
“The kids just came from everywhere,” she said of her reports the next day. “It’s the girl from Salthill! It’s the weather girl!’ I posed for about 100 selfies in Ballina.”
The video has been shared tens of thousands of times on social media, with some calling for RTE to give Ms Mannion a raise, a medal or even an Oscar.
An electronic dance music remix of her report has also surfaced on YouTube.
Storm Desmond caused chaos across the UK and Ireland over the weekend.
