How you can watch Queen’s funeral in Australia

Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest in on Monday. Here is how you can watch the funeral service.

‘One last night at home’ for Queen Elizabeth II

Millions of people around the world are expected to tune into the funeral service for Queen Elizabeth on Monday.

Britain’s longest reigning monarch served as Queen for a massive 70 years until she died at her Balmoral home on September 8, aged 96.

Her funeral will be the first held at Westminster Abbey for a monarch since King George II in 1760.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be in attendance alongside world leaders including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

But how exactly can you watch the service in Australia?

WHEN WILL THE FUNERAL BE HELD?

The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 19 at 11am local time.

That means Monday night in Australia.

For people in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, the ACT and Tasmania, the funeral will start at 8pm.

In the Northern Territory and South Australia, it will begin at 7.30pm.

In Western Australia, the service will start at 6pm.

HOW TO WATCH THE SERVICE

ABC News will be broadcasting the funeral live from 8pm AEST on ABC TV and ABC iview.

You can also tune in to ABC NewsRadio to listen to the funeral live from the ABC listen app.

Nine and Seven will also broadcast the service live, with Ten choosing to run their normal programming instead.

But for royal fans in Australia, the networks will kick off their broadcast at midday, while ABC will switch over to London around 4:30pm.

WHO WILL BE AT THE FUNERAL?

Westminster Abbey will be packed to the brim of world leaders, friends and family wishing to say farewell to the beloved Queen.

King Charles and Queen consort Camilla will be up front and centre, expected to be flanked by the late monarchs four children and grandchildren.

The ‘Fab Four’ -- Prince William, Catherine, Prince Harry and Meghan -- will also be in attendance.

Royalty from across Europe are also expected to have accepted the invite from the Palace.

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, and Japanese Emperor Naruhito and other world leaders will round out the guest list.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the most senior figure in the Church of England, will lead the Queens' funeral.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE FUNERAL?

After the service, the Queen’s coffin will be drawn in a walking procession from the abbey to the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner before proceeding to Windsor by hearse.

She will then be buried at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. with her husband, Prince Philip, who died last year but was temporarily laid to rest in the Royal Vault.

The Chapel is the resting place for the King George VI, the Queen Mother and her sister, Princess Margaret.
