Home And Away stars reveal their most memorable on set moments

Home And Away actors have opened up about their embarrassing on set moments, including one where a wave knocked off a star’s bikini.

Home And Away returns Easter Monday

Some of Home And Away’s biggest stars have opened up about their most memorable on set moments, and the ones they’d rather forget.

Ahead of the show’s return to screens on Easter Monday at 7pm, six cast members spoke to news.com.au about outrageous storylines and even the time one of them accidentally flashed their co-stars.

Luke Jacobz who plays Angelo Rosetta

Years ago Angelo was on the beach with Nicole (played by Tessa James) during the strongest wind storm I’ve ever witnessed and he had to deliver a baby. Every time we would speak our mouths would fill with sand, the baby doll we had was covered in strawberry jam and had sand stuck all over it and Tessa and I couldn’t stop laughing because we couldn’t even open our eyes. I think I still have sand in my ears from that day!

Emily Weir who plays Mackenzie Booth

One of the funniest and most awkward moments on set was when my character Mackenzie first started to learn to surf. I am not a surfer myself so the fact that Mackenzie couldn’t surf was kind of perfect. However, while we were filming in the ocean, I forgot to keep checking the waves coming in behind me.

On one particular occasion I was waiting and a huge wave came up behind me and thrusted me all the way forward with such force that both the top and bottoms of my bikini became victims to the swirling of the sea.

I was quickly able to regain my swimming costume but was red faced for the remainder of the day. The lesson? Always check the waves coming behind you. Alternatively, wear a full piece.

Ray Meagher who plays Alf Stewart

The most memorable storyline was the brain tumour storyline where one of Alf’s symptoms was that he could see his recently passed wife and he insisted that Fisher and Morag (Norman Coburn and the late great Cornelia Frances) say hello to Ailsa (Judy Nunn). Ailsa wasn’t in fact there, it was just one of the symptoms of his tumour. While the subject matter of the brain tumour was very, very serious, the situation filming was very, very funny!

Lynne McGranger who plays Irene Roberts

Irene has been through a helluva lot, but one storyline that stands out is when she was wooed by Lou De Bono, a local fisherman played by the lovely David Roberts. He invited her on a trip on his boat and one morning she woke up alone on the boat. She had no idea how to operate the boat or how to call for help, so she got stuck into the wine on board.

By the time she was discovered floating off the coast by Constable Angelo Rosetta (played by Luke Jacobz), she was a dribbling, paranoid drunk mess!

To make matters worse, she was charged with Lou’s murder and sent to jail where her drinking continued thanks to Lou’s ex wife, Donna (played by the fabulous Susie McKenzie), who was smuggling the booze into jail so that Irene would continue to spiral into alcoholic oblivion.

Eventually, Bernard Curry’s character Hugo, who was involved in a people smuggling racket, was charged with Lou’s murder and Irene was released. Phew!

Ada Nicodemou who plays Leah Patterson-Baker

A special memory for me was the Leah and Vinnie (Ryan Kwanten) wedding which we shot I think 19 years ago. Leah had the BIG dress on, Vinnie a kilt, so it was visually very interesting. We definitely had the big Greek wedding, with Greek dancing, traditional ceremonies leading up to the wedding and the characters even got married by a Greek priest.

My mum was asked to be the ‘Greek’ advisor so she loved being on set. She even turned up to the wedding dress fittings so it felt like a real wedding and I even had my real life family members as guests.

Courtney Miller who plays Bella Nixon

My most embarrassing moment on set was the day Lynne, Ada, Georgie (Parker), Tim, Ray and myself were filming in the Diner. I had a question for the director regarding whether my character Bella had seen Alf prior to the scene we were shooting. I began my question quite confidently but then realised halfway through that I had indeed forgotten the name of Ray’s character.

Turning to Ray I asked, “What is your character’s name again?” In my defence, it was more of a rhetorical question in order to buy my memory some time. Nonetheless, I was given the look of shame. “Alf, Alf Stewart”, everyone exclaimed. Luckily, Ray has only reminded me of this moment once or twice. Note to upcoming actors: don’t forget the name of the show’s most pivotal character.
