Hi-5’s Nathan Foley has hinted the iconic Aussie kid’s band were getting back together - but now says the reboot may not happen at all.

Hi-5 star Nathan Foley has been forced to back-pedal on claims the original band would get back together for an adults-only gig after sending the internet into overdrive for hinting at a reboot.

Mr Foley took to Instagram to test the waters with his 16,000 followers for a revival concert.

“Who wants the original Hi-5 to do a special 18+ reunion concert?” he asked, sharing a throwback pic of crew from the early 2000s.

“If you think we should? Then let us know if you’ll be there. This post can be your petition.”

The old school snap racked up nearly 11,000 likes and thousands of comments as fans of the iconic Aussie kids show went into meltdown over the idea.

“You guys are my ultimate childhood,” one person commented, with another demanding Nathan “tell the squad to make this happen”.

Even the original blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, commented on the viral post, simply writing “yesssss”.

Mr Foley has admitted he was inspired by the original cast of The Wiggles, who came together earlier this month for an 18+ concert to raise money for bushfire ravaged communities and affected animals.

In a follow-up post, Mr Foley said he came up with the idea after performing a skit at the Wiggles reunion gig where he performed “a one minute medley of some Hi-5 songs”, adding that the crowd “went crazy”.

He said he had jumped the gun with the reunion suggestion, admitting nothing is “set in concrete”.

“I’ve been getting countless amounts of messages asking me if there’s going to be a Hi-5 reunion concert,” he said.

“Let me clear something up: This concert is not confirmed yet. There’s nothing solid going on.

The retired children’s TV star said he had spoken to the other members of the original cast in their group chat and while they’re all keen they are all “pretty busy”.

“We are working on something – we just don’t know what yet,” he said.

“Please stay tuned – there are no promises, but we are trying to get something running for you guys because we love you.”

Hi-5 premiered on Channel 9 in 1999, featuring an original cast of Kellie Crawford, Kathleen de Leon Jones, Tim Harding, Charli Robinson, and Mr Foley.

De Leon Jones was the first member to leave the band after giving birth in early 2006 and other members subsequently followed.

By the end of 2008, the original cast had been completely replaced by a new line-up of fresh faces.

In 2012, Nine sold the Hi-5 brand to Asian equity group Asiasons following financial difficulties at the network. That same year, Hi-5 was cancelled with season 13 being its last. International versions have since appeared in the UK, Philippines, Latin America and Indonesia.

Spin-off versions appeared on various other networks, including Nickelodeon’s Nick Junior channel while Nine tried to reboot the series in 2016, but by September 2018 the franchise was again cancelled.
