FOXTEL has announced a new cut-price plan which is aimed at those who have helped make Game of Thrones the most-pirated show on the internet.

FOXTEL has announced a cut-price access plan for its Showcase channel, home of the most pirated show on the internet.

News_Image_File: It’s coming ... Game of Thrones, Season 4.

Foxtel holds exclusive rights to Game of Thrones, which means that legally speaking the only way to watch the fourth series of the HBO show, due to debut on the April 7 is to pay for a subscription.

Game of Thrones has continually topped the “most pirated” lists since its inception, with many pirates justifying the act due to the cost of access to the popular show.

The cost of an ongoing Foxtel subscription, coupled with options such as iTunes and Quickflix purchases that were offered for last year’s Season 3 but are not available for the new season has drawn the ire of many internet commentators.

It would appear that Foxtel is throwing them something of an olive branch, or in the case of Game of Thrones, possibly a three-eyed raven, announcing a cut in price for the Showcase channel option.

Under the deal, Foxtel Play customers — those accessing Foxtel from IPTV devices such as PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and a range of Samsung and LG Smart TVs — would be able to add the Showcase bundle to a Foxtel Play subscription for an additional $10 per month for the three month period that the series will run, for a minimum of $35/month over that period.

Existing Foxtel fixed line subscribers get the same deal; Showcase available for $10/month during that period, although the signup period is slightly different.

At the same time, Foxtel’s also announced when its purely IP-based movie subscription offering, Presto will launch in Australia.

From March 13, Presto will offer Foxtel’s movies on a streaming basis for $19.99 per month.

Foxtel is jointly owned by Telstra and News Corporation, which is the publisher of this website.
