Emilia Clarke’s ideal Game of Thrones scene sounds a bit racy
GAME of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has given a remarkably candid interview to Glamour, in which she describes the racy scene she’d most like to see.
GAME of Thrones’ fictional world, Westeros, is full of strapping young men brandishing their long, impressive swords.
That’s not a euphemism. But if Emilia Clarke got her way, it would be.
The British actress, who plays fan favourite Daenerys on the show, just gave a remarkably candid interview to Glamour. In it, she was asked to describe a Game of Thrones storyline she would like to see.
“I want to see Daenerys and her three dragons share the throne. Eat goat they’ve barbecued. And bring back all the pretty boys, get them to take their trousers down, and be like, ‘I’m now the queen of everything! I’d like close-ups of all the boys’ penises, please.’”
There’s an idea. You could even rename it Game of Bones.
It would certainly increase female viewership, which as Glamour points out, is already 40 per cent of Game of Thrones’ audience. Not bad for a gory, geeky fantasy show.
“I love that so many women watch the show,” Ms Clarke said. “If you look at Game of Thrones on face value — blood, tits, dragons, swear words — you’re like oh, this must be for guys. But if you take that away, the storylines are fascinating depictions of the struggle for power. And women are in on that conversation!”
Good point, but let’s get back to the nudity. We’ve seen a lot of it throughout the first five seasons — mostly from women. Why the imbalance?
“How come, in a show full of women’s breasts, butts, even the occasional vagina, we never saw your husband Khal Drogo’s dong?” Glamourasked Ms Clarke.
“Oh, I did. I saw his member, but it was covered in a pink fluffy sock. Showing it would make people feel bad. It’s too fabulous,” she replied.
Well, that explains it.
As you may recall, Daenerys’s relationship with Drogo’s fabulous, pink-fluffy-sock-clad man part was complex and at times deeply disturbing. She was Drogo’s prisoner at first, and he raped her several times. Many fans have expressed discomfort with the way the couple’s story arc turned out, as Daenerys eventually fell in love with her former captor.
“Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s arranged marriage, and the customary rape that followed ... ask George R.R. Martin why he did that, ‘cause that’s on him. But I thought the consensual sex she has thereafter was genius,” Ms Clarke says.
“She is physically saying, ‘You can’t rape me again. I’m going to be in control and show you something you’ve never seen before.’
“You see her attacked by her brother, raped by her husband, and then going, ‘F*** all of you, I’m going to rule the world.’”
Of course, to rule the world, she’ll have to conquer it first, and having fallen back into the clutches of the Dothraki at the end of season five, Daenerys will find that challenging.
You’ll get to see how she goes when season six starts on April 26.
