‘Foul’: Fiery row erupts on Big Brother as Holly and Abiola clash over ‘pretty privilege’
The Big Brother house erupted on Wednesday after two housemates became locked in a bitter row about ‘pretty privilege’.
Big Brother viewers have been divided after a fiery debate on Wednesday night’s show sparked anger in the house.
Drama erupted during the latest episode when Holly and Abiola locked horns over a debate about “pretty privilege”.
Holly claimed that she sees the good and the bad sides to being conventionally attractive, while Abiola fought back and shared her frustration over the notion that Holly’s life is somehow as difficult as hers is as a black and queer woman.
“Prettier people in society get treated differently,” said Vincent raising the subject to the rest of the group.
“I don’t agree with pretty privilege at all,” exclaimed Holly, who previously courted controversy upon entering the house.
“Yes there are privileges that come with being beautiful. But pretty privilege I always say this, is a double-edged sword. There’s pros and there’s cons. People might not think that I get social anxiety. But sometimes when a beautiful girl walks into a room, sometimes we don’t want to be looked at. Sometimes even when I’m dressed down and I’m hiding...”
Abiola then interjected, saying back: “Yeah, but I’d rather that than people not give me the time of day because they think I’m gross.

“But do you know what I’m saying,” pushed Holly.
“No,” insisted Abiola. “You guys live an easier life! People don’t think you’re disgusting!”
“I can’t relate to that,” shrugged Holly. “People have called me stuck up. I’ve been sexualised.”
“Sure,” shouted Abiola. “But I’d rather be sexualised than people not even want to look at me.”
“Do you think it’s fun being sexualised?” asked Holly.
“No I don’t,” insisted Abiola. “But I’m a black woman and I’ve also been sexualised too!”
Fans rushed to social media to comment on the moment, with many commenting under the official video Channel 10 had posted following the episode airing.
“So basically Abbi was saying cos Holly is pretty her feelings don’t matter and walked away when she had to explain herself lol,” claimed one viewer.
“It’s not even something to argue about as we all have our own individual problems and no one persons situation is the same. It’s not a competition or something that should be discussed and competed about so in depth,” agreed a second fan.
While a third questioned: “So Holly’s feelings don’t matter because she’s attractive?”
“I’d rather be sexualised’... Ummmmm, what... That's foul,” complained a fourth angry viewer.
However, others were on Abiola’s side, and hit out at Holly for claiming that being conventionally attractive can be difficult.
“Abbi is right her problems of being shat on constantly by society are heavier than people being intimidated by someone whose pretty. Doesn’t mean her feelings don’t matter but they are different types of feelings,” insisted one viewer.
A second tweeted: “Yes there’s privileges that come with being pretty…well then, there’s your answer end of story Holly.”
“You get certain privileges for being pretty; how is this even a debate??” ranted another.
