A former Today show producer, who has denied raping a woman, will be tried before a jury, a court heard on Tuesday.

Tom Nicol appeared in Sydney’s Downing Centre court, wearing a navy suit, a pink necktie and glasses.

He sat silent during the day’s proceedings, apart from rising to respond when he was arraigned on a charge of sexual intercourse without consent.

“Not guilty, your honour,” Mr Nicol said.

The alleged incident happened in January, 2021 in Mr Nicol’s Bondi home.

The court heard a jury would be empanelled later in the week.

The trial is likely to go on for about seven to 10 days, defence barrister Phillip Boulten SC told the court.

Mr Nicol was charged last February and has consistently denied the allegation.

After he was charged, he parted ways with Channel 9 and the Today program, where he was a supervising producer and which is hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.
