Former Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller reveals shock snub: ‘Not invited’

Former Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller has made a stunning on air revelation, leaving her co-host Brendan “Jonesy” Jones gobsmacked.

Revealed nominations for Logies 2023

She scored a coveted Gold Logie nomination in 2019 - but popular TV and radio host Amanda Keller has revealed she isn’t even invited to this year’s awards ceremony.

Keller, 61, made the stunning announcement on WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda show on Monday morning, leaving her co-host utterly gobsmacked.

“Two Logies ago, I was nominated for Gold – I’m not invited this year,” she told a stunned Brendan “Jonesy” Jones.

“Hang on a minute … You’re not even invited?” he asked.

“I wasn’t expecting to be nominated, but I wasn’t invited,” Keller admitted, before insisting that she was “happy not to go”.

“It’s a hard night, isn’t it? You’ve got to wear Spanx, and all the clothes fittings and stuff, and all that stuff … So I’m going to be doing what I usually do, which is watch it on TV and probably go to bed at about 9.30pm.”

After Jones quipped that his longtime co-host was always his ticket to “free booze” at the Logies, and that “doors open” whenever he’s with her, she responded bluntly: “Well, doors are shut this year, Brendan.”

Keller also suggested that her lack of invite this year is because she’s no longer on screens each week as host of Ten’s lifestyle show The Living Room, which was “rested” at the end of 2022.

“I think there’ll be other years where I’ll be on something and [invited]. But so much for Channel 10 ‘resting’ the show - I think it’s a bit of a death knell,” she said.

“TV’s not the be all and end all of my life, my career. People keep going with lives after TV shows finish.”

Keller became the centre of arguably the most controversial Gold Logie race in the ceremony’s history in 2019 – the last show to go ahead before two years of Covid-related cancellations – when HardQuiz host Tom Gleeson snagged the prize after a highly cynical campaign.

Gleeson further ruffled feathers when accepting his prize, wine in hand, telling the surprised audience to “lighten the f**k up.”

“Just because all of you want it and I’ve got it, don’t get angry with me. It’s all right, you’ll all survive. It’s a shame this is the last Gold Logie that’s ever going to be handed out — according to Grant Denyer, I’ve ruined the Logies. But at least I won this all by myself,” he said.

“Do you know what would have been weirder? If I campaigned for this award sincerely … Imagine me just sincerely saying I was humbled by the award. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. It would make me want to vomit.”

Addressing the controversial Logies campaign again on Monday morning, Keller admitted it had left her feeling like she’d “missed out” on the proper Gold Logie nominee experience.

“When I look at the camaraderie of all the nominees for the Gold, I think, ‘Oh, I missed out on the one year where there was that’,” she said on-air.

“Because Tom [Gleeson’s] joke trope was, ‘Hey, the Logies are terrible, they’re all cheesy, let’s vote against the Logies, really’.

“So the press then made that him versus me somehow, and it felt like a tussle, and it wasn’t a very pleasant journey. So when I see everyone going, ‘Isn’t this great, isn’t it great to be nominated?’ I think, ‘Oh, I missed out on that’.”

What Will the Gold Logie Nominees Do With The Trophy?

Shortly after the 2019 ceremony, Keller admitted on her radio show that she was left “upset” by parts of Gleeson’s victory speech as it made a joke out of hardworking members of their industry.

“I think in his speech when he said, ‘Everyone who works in TV, if you want to win this you’re a big wanker’, pretty much, and that upset me because he was mean to (last year’s Gold Logie winner) Grant (Denyer) I felt,” she told Jones.

“He said ‘Yeah I won it last year for Grant, and sucker, now I’ve done it on my own for me.’

“I like Tom … no problem with Tom. But (his speech) gave everyone permission to say, ‘yeah you’re all up yourselves, and this is all a big joke’. And it wasn’t a joke to me,” Keller explained.

“I don’t know why in television we’re embarrassed to be proud of our work. The tourism industry has awards, the restaurant industry has awards … He got to a point where he said, ‘Sucko for wanting this, you know it’s all a dumb joke’ — and that’s what made me feel bad, because to the other nominees, it wasn’t.

“We were all worthy, and I don’t think we should be embarrassed for being worthy.”

The 63rd TV Week Logie Awards are set to take place at The Star in Sydney on July 30, with Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Leigh Sales, Mark Coles Smith, Osher Günsberg, Shaun Micallef and Sonia Kruger all nominated for the Gold Logie.
