Flashdance set for TV reboot
The 1983 movie Flashdance became a cult classic – and now, 37 years later, the story will be rebooted for a new TV series.
Iconic 1983 movie Flashdance is set to be rebooted – as a TV series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s original producer Lynda Obst is back on board some 37 years later to helm the TV offshoot of the classic film, which launched Jennifer Beals’ career.
The film told the story of a steel mill worker and passionate young dancer who aspires to become a professional ballerina. This new version will “revolve around a young black woman with ballet dreams and a strip club reality who struggles to find her place in the world while navigating romance, money, art, friendship and how to love herself,” says The Hollywood Reporter. Let’s hope there’s room for at least a cameo from the original Flashdance star – Beals, now 56, took a break from Hollywood post-F lashdance but went on to have a prolific career with roles in TV series like Taken, Proof and The L Word.

The film spawned several hit singles including the Oscar-winning theme song Flashdance … What A Feeling, and the racy dance sequences have been frequently homaged in pop culture over the years. Flashdance was trashed by the critics on its release, but became a surprise box office success, with a worldwide box office gross of more than $US200 million.
The reboot is in development from CBS All Access – no word on a US or Australian airdate as yet.
