What Frasier cast look like now

FRASIER remains one of the most popular spin-offs in TV history, running for 11 seasons and winning 37 Emmy Awards. But what does the cast look like now.

'Friends' Cast to Appear in Special Episode

WHEN they decided to spin-off Frasier Crane’s character from Cheers and give Kelsey Grammer his own show, few believed it would be the enormous hit that it was.

Grammer was originally brought in to the show 1984 as a love interest for Diane Chambers (Shelly Long) and remained on the show after her departure. Cheers ran from 1982 until 1993. Frasier then ran from 1993 until 2004.

Following the life of psychiatrist Frasier Crane, who lives with his father, Martin and his dad’s English carer and part-time psychic, Daphne. Rounding out the cast are Frasier’s pompous brother, Niles, his sassy radio producer, Roz and work colleagues Bob ‘Bulldog’ Briscoe and the station boss Kenny Daly.

Frasier is one of the most successful spin-off series in television history and one of the most critically acclaimed comedy series of all time. The series has won a total of 37 Emmys during its 11-year run. Grammer and David Hyde Pierce each won four.

Kelsey Grammer played the pretentious psychiatrist Frasier Crane, who had his own radio talk show in Seattle. He has barely stopped working since the show ended. He briefly played a news anchor opposite Patricia Heaton in Back to You, before popping up on 30 Rock as himself. He won a Golden Globe for the short-lived show Boss and appeared in movies like The Expendables 3, Transformers: Age of Extinction and the upcoming movie Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising. That is not to mention his voice work as Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons.

The actor also recently announced he would open his own brewery in upstate New York.

He has six children and has been married to Kayte Walsh since 2011 following his divorce from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer.

Despite his stellar career one can’t help but feel sorry for Grammer’s personal life. His father was murdered, in 1968, in the Virgin Islands. His sister, Karen Elisa Grammer, was murdered, in 1975, and his two stepbrothers were killed in a shark/scuba accident.

DAVID HYDE PIERCE (Niles Crane)

The producers of Frasier created the role of Niles after they was struck by Pierce’s resemblance to Grammer. Pierce was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Emmy for a record 11 consecutive years, winning in 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

He has appeared in movies such as Little Man Tate, Nixon and Sleepless in Seattle.

He has spent much of the ensuing years on Broadway where he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in Curtains.

He is also known for his voice work, having played characters in A Bug’s Life and a hilarious role as Sideshow Bob’s brother, Cecil, in The Simpsons in the episode Brother from Another Series.

He came out as gay in 2007, confirming that he and partner Brian Hargrove had been in a relationship for over two decades.

He is the godfather to Jane Leeves’ son, Finn.

JOHN MAHONEY (Martin Crane)

John Mahoney played Martin Crane, the sports-loving father of Frasier and Niles, two sons he loved but rarely understood.

Following the end of the show, Mahoney went on to star in the show In Treatment and guest starring alongside Jane Leeves in Hot in Cleveland. He stepped in to play Robert Terwilliger Sr, the father of Sideshow Bob (voiced by Grammer) and Cecil (voiced by Pierce) in The Simpsons.

Interestingly, Mahoney appeared in an episode of Cheers as a pianist hired to write a jingle for the bar.

Frasier tells Sam (Ted Danson) that his father is dead in Cheers but when Sam pops up on Frasier years later he admits that he lied because he was angry at his dad.

Along with Pierce he is the godfather to Leeves’ son, Finn.

JANE LEEVES (Daphne Moon)

Jane Leeves, who played Daphne Moon, first caught the attention of audiences with her small but funny role on Murphy Brown. During her time on Frasier she was the highest paid English actress on US television. She appeared on Broadway as Sally Bowles in 2002.

She is probably the closest to her Frasier co-stars. As mentioned above, Pierce and Mahoney are godfathers to her son, Finn. Peri Giplin is the godmother to her daughter Isabella and was in the delivery room with Leeves when her daughter was born. Leeves in turn is godmother to Giplin’s daughter, Stella. Not only do Giplin and Leeves live next door to each other in Los Angeles they also have their own production company, Bristol Cities. She has been married to CBS executive Marshall Coben since 1996.

She achieved another hit sitcom with the show Hot In Cleveland, which starred Betty White but was axed last year after a five-year run.

PERI GIPLIN (Roz Doyle)

Peri Giplin almost lost the role of radio producer Roz Doyle to Lisa Kudrow. However producers didn’t feel that Kudrow was the right fit and brought in Giplin to replace her. Lucky for Kudrow she landed Friends later that year.

Giplin had been a make-up artist until she met Blythe Danner (Gwyneth Paltrow’s mum) who became her main supporter in pursuing acting.

Post Frasier, Giplin has also popped up on Hot in Cleveland, alongside Leeves. She has also been a regular on the TV show Scorpion.

She has been married to artist Christian Vincent since 1999 and in 2004 the couple had twin daughters, Stella and Ava, after years of failed IVF treatments.

DAN BUTLER (Bob ‘Bulldog’ Briscoe)

Dan Butler was a recurring guest actor playing Bob ‘Bulldog’ Briscoe, but in 1996, he became a member of the main cast. His character was written out of the show in 1999, but returned to guest star in five episodes of the series’ last three seasons. He has also appeared in The Silence of the Lambs as Roden, Crazy Stupid Love and Enemy of the State.

While his character was a sports-loving jock who used to make fun of Frasier, in real life Butler is openly gay and has long been out of the closet. He is married to producer Richard Waterhouse.

TOM MCGOWAN (Kenny Daly)

He has previously appeared in movies such as The Birdcage, Sleepless in Seattle and The Last of the Mohicans. McGowan landed the role of Bernie on Everybody Loves Raymond and has also popped up on Leeves’ show Hot in Cleveland.

He and his wife Cathy have a son, Mark and a daughter, Mary.
