Sarah Jessica Parker says she’s ‘radically different’ to her Sex & The City character Carrie Bradshaw

CARRIE Bradshaw wasn’t the most “together” character on Sex & The City. And, it turns out, Sarah Jessica Parker admits it took effort to not judge.

CARRIE Bradshaw wasn’t the most “together” character on Sex & The City.

And, it turns out, Sarah Jessica Parker still gets frustrated that people think she’s exactly like her alter ego.

Talking about the topic of “transformation” in the Wall Street Journal, Parker made it clear she’s the complete opposite of the shoe-loving columnist she portrayed for six seasons and two movies, and said it was hard not to judge the character.

“People probably don’t realise that Carrie Bradshaw was radically different from who I was, who I continue to be,” she said. “I think that sometimes because we look alike and live in the same city and haunt the same neighbourhoods, that it was sort of like I was playing in the sandbox, when in truth it took real work every day to be her, to understand her, to not judge her.”

And there was a lot about Carrie to judge. Like the time she cheated on Aidan with Big. Or the fact she was in her thirties with no savings. Or that episode where the apartment she rents is put up for sale and she yells at Charlotte for not bankrolling the purchase for her.

As well as the lack of similarities she shares with the self-involved Bradshaw, the 50-year-old added she’s also different to the new character she plays in the upcoming HBO series, Divorce.

“The character I’m playing is incredibly different from me in many ways — she handles complexity differently than I do, her marriage is different from my own, and she’s struggling financially in a way that I don’t at this point in my life,” she told the publication. “But that’s what I love. I still love the idea of being somebody else.”
