This will probably make fans feel better about the third movie being canned. If it had gone ahead, it would have been devastating.

If Sex and the City 3 had gone ahead, it would have been a real tear-jerker.

It’s been revealed that Carrie’s longtime love Mr. Big was going to die of a heart attack in the third instalment of the movie.

Mr Big’s days were numbered.

This shocking tidbit was revealed on The Hollywood Reporter’s Origins podcast, where journalist James Andrew Miller interviewed the cast and creators of the iconic HBO show and movie franchise.

Sex and the City 3, infamously, was never made. Sarah Jessica Parker, who starred as Carrie Bradshaw in the show from 1998-2004 and in the films in 2008 and 2010, revealed the third movie was scratched in a September 2017 interview with Extra.

“It’s over … we’re not doing it,” she said. “I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.”

Carrie’s friends would have had to support her through the tragedy.

Well, now we know what the “heartbreaking” part was: Chris Noth’s Mr. Big would have died “relatively early” in the film, of a sudden heart attack in the shower.

This isn’t merely a surprising twist — it’s what ultimately drove the nail in the coffin of the next big screen instalment.

According to cast members interviewed on the podcast, the film’s focus on Carrie’s recovery from Big’s death diminished Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) role, which was why Cattrall declined to return. (She also opted out of appearing on the podcast.)

“People close to Kim believe that the script didn’t have a lot to offer the character of Samantha,” Miller says. “They point to the fact that it calls for Mr. Big to die of a heart attack in the shower, relatively early on in the film, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationship between the four women.”
