Courteney Cox on Friends: ‘I don’t even remember being on the show’

Courteney Cox was put on the spot about the show that made her famous by Jimmy Kimmel – and she revealed something truly bizarre.

Friends vs Seinfeld: which one was better?

It’s the one where Courteney Cox forgets she was on one of the most iconic series in television history.

During an appearance on Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! — conducted via video call during the coronavirus lockdown — the actress fielded questions about HBO Max’s upcoming Friends reunion special, which was postponed indefinitely due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The reunion shoot, originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this week, was cancelled, leaving Cox, 55, with some extra time on her hands. She said she’s using her shut-in time to binge-watch the series, which was must-see TV on NBC from 1994 to 2004.

“I don’t remember even being on the show,” she admitted matter-of-factly during Kimmel’s “Quarantine Minilogue” segment. “I have such a bad memory!”

When an amusingly gobsmacked Kimmel, 52, pushed Cox to explain herself, she responded, “I remember, obviously, loving everybody there and having fun, and I remember certain times in my life that I was there, but I don’t remember episodes! I would never pass, I’d fail every test!”

Well, “do you even remember your character’s name?” Kimmel quipped. “Yes, it’s Monica. I do know that,” she clapped back with a chuckle.

All jokes aside, Cox went on to reveal how she was spending her time in self-isolation with musician boyfriend Johnny McDaid, 43, and daughter Coco Arquette, 15.

“I decided during this time, you know people love the show so much, I decided to binge-watch Friends,” she said. “I just started season one. It’s really good.”

Kimmel has been producing Jimmy Kimmel Live! from his home due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The host and Cox also shouted out Meals on Wheels, encouraging viewers to donate to the enduring charitable organisation that feeds senior citizens during times of need.

“They’re always there, delivering meals to people who need meals, and now people really need meals because you can’t leave the house,” said Kimmel.

Page Six previously reported that the Friends reunion was geared to coincide with the launch of the new HBO Max service, where all of the classic sitcom’s episodes will become available in May. (The show was previously streaming on Netflix.)

Sources told Deadline that if a proposed May production start date sticks, the special would still be ready for the launch of HBO Max.
