EXCLUSIVE:
He’s one of many Australian actors to get a start on long-running soap opera Neighbours, but Remy Hii is a long way from Ramsay Street these days.
The Queensland-born star, who took home the Silver Logie in 2014 for his role as Van Tuong Nguyen in the SBS miniseries Better Man, went on to land a role in Netflix drama series Marco Polo. Hii returns in his role as Prince Jingim in the television adaptation of the famed explorer’s story for season two, which was filmed in remote locations around Malaysia and
kicks off globally on July 1.
News.com.au has the exclusive first glimpse at the NIDA graduate in character as Prince Jingim, the son and heir to Kublai Khan’s throne.
In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, Marco Polo — Netflix’s first original period drama — is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th Century China.
“It’s a very big budget, action heavy production requiring hundreds of actors and extras, hours and hours of physical training, fight choreography and punishing hours on set,” Hii told Joy House last year while filming season two. “It’s an incredibly rewarding process, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
John Fusco, who wrote the Academy-Award nominated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, is executive producer and show runner for the Netflix original series, along with Dan Minahan, whose previous work includes Homeland and Game of Thrones. Patrick Macmanus, Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and Elizabeth Sarnoff are executive producers.
The 10-episode second season includes new and returning cast members: Lorenzo Richelmy (Marco Polo), Michelle Yeoh (the Handmaiden), Benedict Wong (Kublai Khan), Joan Chen (Empress Chabi), Zhu Zhu (Kokachin), Tom Wu (Hundred Eyes), Olivia Cheng (Mei Lin), Claudia Kim (Khutulun), Rick Yune (Kaidu), Remy Hii (Prince Jingim), Mahesh Jadu (Ahmad) and Uli Latukefu (Byamba).
Marco Polo season 2 will launch globally on Netflix on July 1, 2016.
