Ed Kavalee left red-faced after star forgets him
The HYBPA comedian cringed in embarrassment when David Walliams revealed he had no recollection of working with him.
Ed Kavalee was visibly embarrassed after being thrown under the bus by Grant Denyer on Have You Been Paying Attention.
Denyer was the special guest host of Monday night’s episode, as regular host Tom Gleisner was away.
The panellists included Sam Pang, Celia Pacquola and Little Britain star, David Walliams, who is currently touring the country.
At one stage during the quiz, Denyer brought up something that Kavalee had told him backstage.
“Ed, you were telling me a little earlier that you and David (Walliams) have actually worked together before,” the Gold Logie winner said.
“Shut up, Denyer,” Kavalee replied.
Denyer pushed for details, asking Kavalee to explain his work history with the British star.
A promotional poster from 2015 then flashed on the screen, advertising an event called ‘David Walliams live with Ed Kavalee’.
The poster came as a surprise to Walliams, who turned to Kavalee and asked, “We’ve met before?”
“This is the most embarrassing moment of my life,” Kavalee said.
Sam Pang pounced on the awkwardness, saying, “It looks like you interviewed David on stage, one-on-one, and he doesn’t remember!”
A red-faced Kavalee explained that he’d spent a full day with Walliams in the past when they performed two shows together in Brisbane.
Again, Walliams made it clear he had no recollection of the shows or Kavalee.
As Kavalee rapidly tried to move on from the embarrassing moment, Pang chimed in with, “this is the greatest moment in the history of the show!”
Kavalee saved face later in the episode when he delivered one of the best zingers of the night as Walliams was talking about all the children's books he’d written.
“I’m sort of the Shakespeare of today with my children's books,” Walliams said.
“Yeah, as in someone else wrote them!” Kavalee joked.
The quip received a huge laugh, with Walliams giving his approval.
“That was very good. You said something funny, well done,” the UK star said.
