Drew Barrymore’s ‘creepy’ behaviour toward ‘uncomfortable’ Oprah

Oprah appeared on the star’s chat show, and fans claimed the star appeared “uncomfortable” with Barrymore’s behaviour.

Drew Barrymore has been slammed with viewers labelling the star star “creepy” and “oblivious” to personal boundaries after she interviewed Oprah on her chat show this week.

The legendary star appeared on Barrymore’s show to chat about the forthcoming release of her new film The Colour Purple.

Barrymore has become known for moving close to people she interviews, regularly sharing hugs and holding their hands as she embraces her own unique style of hosting.

However, Barrymore’s behaviour toward Oprah appears to have been the final straw for many of her viewers.

The former child star shifted her chair closer to Oprah, using her right hand to hold the star’s right hand and she used her left hand to slowly caress the inside of her arm.

As she gripped hold of Oprah’s hand, Barrymore said: “Something that I learned about you, because I didn’t know this detail was that you would spend time with the audience outside of the show you were filming. And one thing that I’ve done is spend time with the audience every day. And I had felt guilty for it.”

Oprah then appeared to shift her body back, and seemed intent on having Barrymore release her hands, while saying: “My crew used to be like, ‘Oh my god, how much time is she going to spend talking to that audience?! Would she please let the audience go so we can let the next audience in?!’”

Viewers rushed to social media to call out Barrymore, with many claiming that Oprah appeared to be uncomfortable.

“Oprah’s body language was so clear she wanted her hand back,” said one viewer, claiming Barrymore failed to pick up on “clear” social cues from the chat show legend.

“Oprah’s body language says it all. Drew is holding on too much. Oprah is trying to release her hand from Drew’s grip. Drew is just too creepy and needy,” ranted another viewer, while another echoed the sentiment, saying: “The hand hold and the arm being caressed is past my boundary.”

Another added: “She’s really creeping me out now. It’s just to weird!”

Barrymore has previously defended her style of hosting, saying on The Tonight Show: “I feel this magnetic pull … I’m on my knees, I’m hugging. I actually am really into this. At first, I was like, ‘Oh is this a good thing? I can’t tell.’ And then I was like, ‘No, this is awesome! It’s so much fun!’”
