The talk on social media last night was less about how amazing the talent was and more about Dannii Minogue's amazingly full new do.
But news.com.au style commentator Melissa Hoyer says Dannii Minogue is in fact on trend, with wigs becoming a staple for many celebrities nowadays.
"I think it is fantastic that a style-oriented and savvy woman like Dannii can wear a wig and make it look cool," says Hoyer.
"It's usually got nothing to do with a personal hair issue or bad hair situation. It's more like a great way of giving a celeb a new look with the help of a great hair stylist, in the space of a few minutes."
Dannii isn't the first celeb to wear a wig. In years gone by names like Cher, Joan Collins and Tina Turner perfected the art of wearing wigs with follicle aplomb, while more recently we have seen names like Sharon Osbourne, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and J-Lo wear wigs in 'real' life, not just in film roles or while on performing duty.
"In days of fast fashion and trend-oriented pop culture chameleons, wigs are a perfect and easy accessory that can give anyone, let alone a public figure, an entire new look," adds Hoyer.
"There is hardly a TV or film celeb who hasn't succumbed to clip-in hair pieces, sewn-in hair extensions, weaves or in some cases, wearing the full kahuna of a wig.
"If it is a good quality wig - some even feature 'roots' so they look even more authentic - and it suits your face shape, then why not take the easier option?"
X Factor viewers took to Twitter during last night's show to weigh in on the wig, but most weren't a fan of Dannii's faux locks.
@DanniiMinogue you have such beautiful hair. Why go the wig? #xfactorau
#XFactor @DanniiMinogue Morticia Addams asked for her Wig Back hahaa
Dannii Minogue is so wearing a wig! Her hair looks so fake & way to much on her head lol #XFactor
It remains to be seen whether Dannii will continue the trend on future episodes of the reality show, but one thing is for sure, she'll want to be certain her wig is properly secured to avoid any 'hairy' wardrobe malfunctions.
