Tony Armstrong reveals his ABC pay rise after Logies win
The popular ABC presenter has revealed he managed to score a pay bump after his Logies win earlier this year.
ABC News Breakfast presenter Tony Armstrong jokingly asked his bosses for more money after his Logies win in June, and it was a gamble that paid off.
The 33-year-old won the Silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent at TV’s night of nights on the Gold Coast, and has since revealed he nudged management to up his salary.
In a surprising twist, his lighthearted request was granted just hours later.
“I get a call from my management, ‘We have had a call from the ABC … They have given you a pay bump,’” he told theAusmerican Aces Sports Club podcast.
“To all the naysayers, it turns out winning a Logie is worth something.”

Armstrong, a former AFL player, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the Australian TV landscape, joining ABC in 2020 as an ABC News sports presenter.
In March 2021, he appeared on ABC News Breakfast as a stand-in for sports presenter Paul Kennedy, before replacing him permanently in July.
He’s swiftly become a viewer favourite thanks to his down-to-earth charm, and was tapped to host the network’s 90th anniversary special, ABC 90 Celebrate!, in June.
Addressing his popularity in a wide-ranging interview with news.com.au, Armstrong said: “Maybe there’s more weirdos out there like me than I actually thought.”
On a more serious note, Armstrong said his Logies appearance was “anxiety inducing”, and that he prefers to live a life away from the spotlight.
“The more interested that people are in talking to me, the less I want to do in a public space,” he said with a laugh when asked about persistent The Bachelor rumours.
“I really didn’t enjoy the [Logies] red carpet … Going to events and stuff like that, it’s just not ever going to be me.”
