The Project: Waleed Aly roasts Steve Price’s cynical jab at Kmart secret Santa gesture
Steve Price’s jab at a secret Santa who went into Kmart’s Richmond store on Saturday and paid off all the laybys sent the Project panel off Monday night.
Steve Price’s jab at a secret Santa who went into Kmart’s Richmond store on Saturday and paid off all the laybys sent the Project panel off once again on Monday night.
The hosts were talking about the good Samaritan who paid off a number of presents for children in the area.
Kmart hasn’t revealed how much was spent or how many customers benefited from the gesture, but it is understood the anonymous Father Christmas paid at least $300.
“It just does our heart good when we see Australians are still prepared to help others in need, even when they don’t know who they are,” Salvation Army’s Warren Elliott said. “Random acts of kindness, it’s great.”
But Pricey wasn’t buying it.
When asked by the panel if he was anywhere near Richmond on the weekend, Price responded with: “Why would someone do that?”
“Why would you do that? I don’t know, it puzzles me. Do you think Kmart did it themselves?”
Waleed Aly chimed in immediately to pour cold water on the Grinchy hot take.
“Why would they do that? Wouldn’t they just say ‘we’ve forgiven the layby costs?” he said.
“Who puts stuff on layby anymore?” Price replied.
“Not everyone has got a private jet, mate!” Waleed exclaimed.
