The Project: Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson celebrate 10th anniversary
It was supposed to be celebrating The Project but Lisa Wilkinson managed to sneak in a hilarious swipe at her last job that had people in stitches.
Lisa Wilkinson has taken a cheeky dig at her former employer Nine on the 10th anniversary special of The Project, after her new colleagues reminded her of a particularly mortifying moment on air.
On Friday Charlie Pickering, Dave Hughes and James Mathison - but no Ruby Rose - returned to the show to look back at the best interviews, gags and awkward bits from the past decade.
While it was supposed to be about The Project, the panel managed to remind Wilkinson about her previous gig on Channel 9.
In 2010, footage of Wilkinson and Karl Stefanovic playing Wii — although it may have looked like something else — went viral, and was mocked by then-panelist Hughes.
A red-faced Wilkinson cringed as the footage was aired again.
“I mean, I thought things got steamy in the back of an Uber at the Today show, that was pretty full on,” Peter Helliar joked.
“You know that was the exact moment when I decided, I think I want to go to channel 10!” she quipped back.
After becoming aware of how, ahem, rude their innocent video game looked Wilkinson said she had tried to rectify things as best she could.
“It was actually halfway through when I realised what Karl was doing, so I tried to look less like he was doing,” she said.
Wilkinson left Today in 2017 after a pay dispute with Nine, while her former co-host Stefanovic was axed from breakfast TV in December last year.
While there was plenty of laughs there was one poignant moment that almost brought Carrie Bickmore to tears.
Gorgi Coghlan recalled how she began as a fill-in for Bickmore when her husband Greg Lang died in 2010.
“I was doing The Circle, I was pregnant with Molly-Rose and Greg had passed away so I had the call to say would you come up and do the show for Carrie, which of course I said yes,” Coghlan said.

“And despite what was happening in your life I’ll never forget, I worked for like five days, you despite going through all of that had this little plant on my desk when I came back to The Circle, with a little note that said, ‘thank you so much for doing that’ — despite what you were going through.
“That has stayed in my life forever, and since then I feel particularly as two mummas I've shared the beautiful birth of Evie and the beautiful birth of Addie with this team,” Bickmore replied.
