Sydney strata manager’s licence suspended pending investigations
A strata manager’s licence has been suspended amid allegations of unethical behaviour aired in an ABC Four Corners report.
A Sydney strata manager has had his licence suspended amid allegations of unethical behaviour.
Result Strata and Michael Lee’s strata management licences have both been suspended for a maximum of 60 days, NSW Fair Trading said on Thursday.
“The suspension followed a notice being served on Mr Lee and Result Strata requiring them to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken,” the government body said.
Grant Thornton has since been appointed Result Strata manager.
“Impacted strata schemes have been contacted, with owners encouraged to engage Grant Thornton directly with any questions,” Fair Trading continued.
Mr Lee, the strata committee chairman, was accused late last year of unethical behaviour by the ABC in a Four Corners episode.
In the show, Mr Lee was accused of controlling the committee of his apartment block, which was allegedly ridden with defects.
He then went on to resist efforts by a majority of the building’s owners to remove him and other members of the committee and replace them with newly elected representatives, the ABC alleged.
Mr Lee has repeatedly denied these allegations and accused the ABC of “dangerous” journalism that had put him under “tremendous emotional strain”.
Fair Trading NSW has urged anyone with concerns about the management of their strata scheme to speak with their strata manager or reach out to Fair Trading.
