Sydney landlord forced to clean up ‘unbearable mess’ allegedly left behind by tenant
A landlord has been left to sort out the mess after a tenant left behind an “unlivable” home littered with rotting cartons of milk and dog food.
A Sydney landlord has been left horrified after discovering he had to clean up an “unbearable” mess left behind by a tenant.
Quincy privately rented out his Riverstone property five years ago, but says he never expected what would unfold after leasing the property.
“I am devastated really. Financially, emotionally I have basically lost faith in humanity, ” he told A Current Affair.
He led a reporter through the home, which was littered with discarded bowls of noodles, rotting cartons of milk, cat food, dog poo and birdcages.
The smell of the discarded items was too much for the reporter to bare, dry heaving as she went into various rooms inside the home.
“Its hard to take a breath and not breathe,” she said.
Quincy said he had not been given access to inspect the property in the entire time he had rented it out, with the tenant giving excuse after excuse to avoid him entering the property
“She somehow locked up the front gate with a padlock,” Quincy said.
Things began to change when the tenant fell behind on rent for the $450 per week property, forcing him to take her to the tribunal.
The tenant then vacated the property, leaving behind the mess.
When spoken to by A Current Affair, the woman said that it was her grandmother who had lived in the property before she passed away last year.
“After my nan died, as far as I‘m aware, he hasn’t really wanted contact so I just left it as that,” she said.
She went on to say that she would go back to the home to assist in the clean up effort.
