Rebecca Judd goes on maternity leave after awkward moment with sports presenter Tony Jones
HOW’S this for awkward? It’s the moment that Channel Nine newsreader Tony Jones tries to share an intimate moment with presenter Rebecca Judd.
THIS might be one of the most awkward things to ever happen on Australian live television.
Last night was weather presenter Rebecca Judd’s final appearance on Channel Nine news in Melbourne before heading off on maternity leave.
Towards the end of the broadcast, Judd’s co-presenter, Peter Hitchener, wished her well for the birth of her twins, due in October.
The camera continued to roll while sports anchor Tony Jones walked into the shot and placed an awkward arm around Judd.
Judd looked visibly uncomfortable as Jones’s hand lingered on her shoulder. Cringe.
But the most awkward part was yet to come.
“The Carlton supporters are very excited ... good luck, mate,” Jones said, before leaning in for a kiss.
But Judd quickly pulled away, not letting him plant the kiss, before the three broke out in a fit of giggles.
@TJch9 you know I love you!

Hitchener could barely contain his laughter while wrapping up the program.
It wasn’t the first time the pair were caught in an awkward television exchange during failed on-air banter.
Back in 2013, Jones lightheartedly asked Judd to “come round for a barbie”, to which she shut him down quickly with a “no, thanks”.
