A first-of-its-kind dating app for neurodiverse people, co-founded by Love on the Spectrum star Michael Theo, is about to make its debut on the international dating scene.

The innovative app, Wable, launched in Australia in February will soon debut in New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom, according to Aussie CEO and co-founder Holly Fowler.

Michael signed up to Wable himself after its launch, saying “it’s early days” but he is enjoying meeting new people and going on dates.

“It’s been nice so far, I’ve had quite a few dates with several women – not at the same time of course,” Michael said.

“(Recently) I’ve had a few dates with a woman from Melbourne and there’s potential for more.

“But it’s still early days.”

Michael said he is “proud” to be an ambassador for Wable, saying, “for a long time there hasn’t really been a platform for neurodiverse people.

“The world has only been catering to the needs of neurotypical people for far too long and has neglected the needs of neurodiverse people.

“But that will soon change with Wable.”

Ms Fowler was inspired to create the app after watching Michael’s personal journey on Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum.

Ms Fowler said the app is an “inclusive platform” designed for neurodiverse people to make all kinds of connections; from dating to friendship and even for professional networking.

Neurodivergent is a non-medical term often used to refer to people with brains that develop or work differently to what is considered average.

It is frequently used for and by people with autistic spectrum disorder, but is also used more widely to include other neurological and developmental conditions such as ADHD and learning disabilities.

Wable offers resources for neurodiverse people not commonly found on other mainstream dating apps, which were developed with their in-house lead psychologist Phoebe Cummings.

“We will constantly be adding to the toolkit of resources on Wable, making sure they are relevant and applicable to our users,” Dr Cummings said.

“It is looking like people will soon be able to ask questions on Instagram and tell us if there are particular topics they’d like covered in the toolkit,” she said.

Wable gives its users complete control of their profile and information, from offering a range of colour schemes designed to suit sensory preferences, to how messages can be sent and received, including a chat wheel to help kick start conversations.

Ms Fowler confirmed Wable will to launch in New Zealand, the US and the UK in the coming months, taking its innovative design to a global audience.

The Wable team is about to start their second capital raise, with the aim of raising up to $1.5 million to further develop the app and what it offers the neurodivergent community.

“The Australian launch exceeded all our expectations,” Ms Fowler said.

“I’m really looking forward to maintaining the momentum we’ve established both locally and abroad as we inch closer to international expansion.

“We’ve got some exciting features on the horizon that haven’t been seen before, so I can’t wait to see the reaction from our users when we release them soon.”
