Lisa Wilkinson slams Gladys Berejiklian’s confusing lockdown decisions
Sydney covid numbers are worse than ever and Lisa Wilkinson has slammed Gladys Berejiklian’s relaxed stance and lack of communication.
Lisa Wilkinson has had enough.
With the Sydney lockdown in shambles, The Project host is expressing her disdain with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s lack of communication.
Fellow host Waleed Aly claimed that history was repeating itself with lessons not being learned.
“It reminds me so much of the situation in Melbourne last year where you had people from low-income areas with insecure work that couldn’t take time off to get tested and it was only after the outbreak reached those points where people went, oh my God, that is a bit of a problem,” he said.
“I don’t understand why lessons aren’t being learned? Is it just too hard or they aren’t watching to see what the lessons are? I’m genuinely confused by this?” he concluded.

Wilkinson couldn’t help but blame the Premier’s relaxed stance on the situation, reprimanding her for not putting Sydney into a stricter lockdown, sooner.
“I think everybody in Sydney is it confused as well,” she admitted.
“Right from the beginning of this, Gladys Berejiklian was refusing to call it a lockdown and that was the most important moment of communication.
“We all knew, and still know, that the Delta variant is so much more transmissible and she never adopted a stance that made it look like she was taking this more seriously, but she had every reason to.”
Wilkinson noted NSW was even regarded as the ‘gold standard’.
“She had the Prime Minister at the same time saying, Gladys is the gold standard of how you do these sorts of lockdowns, and so Sydney has kind of been confused and it’s no surprise to anybody that the numbers are the way they are. The word I’m hearing a lot from my Sydney friends that they are ‘confused’.”

On Thursday, July 8, Gladys Berejiklian revealed the only way Sydney can end its extended lockdown was if every single person does the right thing.
Thirty-eight new Covid-19 infections were recorded in NSW on Thursday, with the state continuing to grapple with its growing outbreak of the highly-contagious Delta strain.
The state’s two-week lockdown was extended by another week on Wednesday, and Ms Berejiklian said on Thursday she wanted people to avoid visiting other households.

“I want to say in the most, strongest possible terms, please, please avoid contact with other households, please avoid visiting family and friends because you are not allowed to,” she said.
“When we talk about providing care or compassion, we are talking about one person visiting someone who might be isolated, dropping off essential services or goods.
“We are not talking about visiting extended family members, we’re not talking visiting friends.
“Data over the last few days shows this is how the virus is spreading. The saddest message out of all of that is that people with the virus are passing it on to those they love the most.”
