Convicted paedophile and ex-Australian TV star Robert Hughes has been tracked down to his new residence in the UK after fleeing Australia following a stint in prison.

The 73-year-old, who played Martin Kelly on Hey Dad! from 1987 to 1993, was released last month after more than six years in custody for the sexual abuse of young girls, including Sarah Monahan, who played his on-screen daughter Jenny.

He was deported from Sydney’s Long Bay jail, moved to Villawood Detention Centre, then went to Salisbury in England.

Channel 9’s A Current Affair attempted to conduct an interview with him, but was met with a stony glare and zipped lips as cameras followed him through the street.

Several of the victims Hughes targeted in the 1980s and ’90s, including Ms Monahan, have spoken publicly about the abuse they endured.

“He will never say sorry He’ll never say it. I’m not going to beg for it. I’m not going to ask for it,” she told Channel 9.

“I don’t think he’ll ever change. he’s to set in his ways. He’s too old to ever change. And he’s too arrogant.

According to court documents, the bulk of Hughes’ crimes were committed before he secured the lead role of Martin Kelly on the hit Channel 7 sitcom that ran for seven years.

In 2014 he was handed a 10 year and nine month prison sentence after receiving 10 convictions for child sex offences that included sexual intercourse without consent and multiple acts of indecent assault.

Hughes, who has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, targeted four victims aged under 16 in the 1980s and ’90s.

While in jail, Hughes claimed he was subject to constant verbal and physical abuse that included excrement, urine and boiling water being thrown over him.

“He looked really, really old,” Ms Monahan told reporters after a hearing at Parramatta Law Courts.

“Anybody who’s going through it and they’re scared to go in to the court and see them, absolutely do it because it takes all their power away.

“I wanted him to see me … and that I wasn’t scared anymore.”
