Carrie Bickmore could move to Channel 9 after quitting The Project

There are signs that Carrie Bickmore could soon move to another major network after she left the door open to another TV gig.

Intense speculation has surrounded Carrie Bickmore after the TV star announced her shock departure from The Project.

There are suggestions that Bickmore could switch networks to join Karl Stefanovic behind the desk of Channel Nine’s Today show in 2023.

“Whatever happens, it will be a very different TV landscape in 2023,” one executive told The Daily Telegraph.

Fans have taken to social media to say how much they will miss the star presenter.

“Nine needs to do something with Today as ratings can’t continue as they have. It is crunch time. Carrie is very well-liked, the question really is whether she would take the job.”

There could well be room for her at Today, with Ally Langdon tipped as the top contender to take over from Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair following her announcement that she would leave the program after 17 years.

Another insider noted that there was wiggle room in Bickmore‘s announcement to move to another TV gig.

“I’m not leaving TV, my son sent me a message saying ‘I want to see my retirement’ — honey I’m not retiring. I’m going to move onto something different which I do not know what that is yet,“ Bickmore said during her announcement.

Bickmore took three months away from the desk earlier this year to move to the UK with her family.

“It was a bit odd … seemed cryptic,” the insider said. “But if she is going – why would Ten keep her on air?”

A source at another network said a move to Today “makes sense”.

“It is the next, most obvious step for her,” they told Daily Mail Australia.

“As much as you’d like to say that she is not as nice as her on-screen persona, that’s not the case.

“Everyone likes her. Viewers like her. She would bring a lot of positive energy to Today and, in terms of timing, it all makes sense.”

The Gold Logie winner teared up while announcing that she would wrap up her time on the show after 13 years.

“It’s been the hardest decision of my professional life but it’s time for a new challenge and my next chapter. I am going to miss my best mates on the desk, the job itself which is so incredibly fulfilling and our wonderful viewers so much.

“The show has become a second home to me and I couldn’t be more thankful to everyone involved in it. I started the show when Ollie was one and he is now 15, which is crazy.

“I look forward to more family dinners and watching the show with my PJs on and a wine in hand. I’ll say more to the amazing people I work with when it’s time to say my final goodbye … but for now, I will enjoy every show I have left til the end of the year.

Bickmore has three children; Adelaide, three, and Evie, seven, who she shares with her partner Chris Walker, and her son Oliver, who she had with her late husband Greg Lange.

Bickmore joined The Project when it launched back in 2009, and went on to win a Gold Logie in 2015.
