AUSTRALIAN comedian Jim Jefferies has lambasted journalist and pundit Piers Morgan in a expletive-laden tirade on US television.
The fiery exchange took place this weekend on Bill Maher’s Real Time talk show, which each week includes a panel of celebrities and experts to discuss topical political news.
Things turned ugly when the host complained about the immigration ban imposed by the Trump administration after taking office.
“There is no Muslim ban,” Morgan interrupted.
It was an assertion to which the Aussie comedian — well known for employing the occasional profanity — took immediate exception.
“Oh f*** off,” Jefferies said to the crowd’s delight. “F*** off. F*** off,” he continued. “There’s a f***ing Muslim ban.”
Piers Morgan likened the reaction from Jefferies to “hysteria” and claimed 85 per cent of the world’s Muslims were still able to get into the US under the controversial executive order, which has since been blocked.
But the Australian again criticised Morgan’s defence of the new US president, evoking a popular comparison among Trump’s more fervent detractors.
“You say he’s not gonna do all these things? Give him a f***ing chance mate. Hitler didn’t kill the Jews on the first day, He worked up to it,” Jefferies said.
The crowd loved it, but the British expat certainly did not.

“That is the exact ridiculous, hysterical, over-the-top nonsense making people like you look ridiculous,” Morgan counted.
Morgan’s defence of the controversial US president is hardly a surprise given the fact that his Twitter profile picture is a photo of the pair on the set of Donald Trump’s reality TV show The Apprentice. Piers Morgan won the show back in 2008.
The British journalist who is now based in the US is known to many Australian sports fans for, among other things, having his rib broken by Australian fast bowler Bree Lee and for starting a Twitter beef with tennis star Nick Kyrgios. But many more Aussies will know the conservative commentator after the dressing down he received from one of the country’s most successful comedians.
“You just like that you won The Apprentice and you have a famous friend mate. That’s all you f***ing like,” Jefferies told him.
Morgan hit back, telling Jefferies he was losing his audience because he was sounding “unpleasant”.
“Am I losing my audience?” Jefferies asked the crowd.
After receiving a rapturous applause, Jefferies gave his opponent the middle finger and took a triumphant swig of his drink.
The firey exchange generated plenty of chat on social media, with Morgan’s fellow country woman and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling weighing in on the issue.
