'Crime scene' room shocks judges

IT was described as a 'crime scene', but The Block contestants Matt and Kim have defended their controversial paint splattered bedroom - admitting they're not on the show to win.

Speaking with news.com.au after their room was judged, WA contestant Matt said while he knows "the most plain house is probably going to win", he sees the show as too good an opportunity to play it safe.
"We want to show off our style. People like to associate themselves with cool bars and restaurants, and we feel that people should have that look in their homes. We even have a room in our own home that's entirely red, with a big chandelier in the middle."

While admitting a paint splattered bedroom might "narrow the market a bit", Matt said he and Kim wanted to create a house they're "really proud of; something to show off our design skills".
But the judges didn't share their vision, with Neale Whitaker slamming the room as "not a bedroom, but a crime scene".
It wasn't only the judges comments that caused grief for the couple, with Matt admitting he and Kim were highly stressed while creating the room.
"There was about three hours preparation involved in getting the room ready before we started painting. We had already laid white carpet, and we didn't have time to make a mistake because the room reveal was the next day, so we had to be really careful".
While he managed to keep the 'clean' half of the room white, the same couldn't be said for Matt himself.
"I'm going to go down as the scruffiest guy on the show ever - I've never got a rag spare, so I just wipe it on myself!".
Matt said that viewers can expect some changes from the couple over the next couple of weeks, with the couple taking the judges comments on board.
"At the end of the day, we'll take all the help we can get".
