Controversial 13 Reasons Why is renewed
THIS controversial Netflix series, which has been criticised for its depictions of suicide and sexual assault, has been renewed for a third season — with one major change.
CONTROVERSIAL series 13 Reasons Why has been renewed for a third season, but with one major change to its line-up.
The divisive Netflix show will return in 2019 without Australian actor Katherine Langford, who plays lead character Hannah Baker.
While the streaming service confirmed on Tuesday there would be another season, Langford wrote on Instagram last month that she won’t be reprising her role.
“This show will always be a special part of my life, and regardless of whether Hannah is there or not, I know that I will continue to strive to do work that is meaningful and has a positive impact — whether that be in film, music, or any other form of art,” she said.
“There is a lot coming up this next year, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”
13 Reasons Why premiered on Netflix in 2017 and proved instantly popular with teenage audiences.
But the show faced criticism for its graphic depiction of self-harm, prompting Headspace to issue a suicide warning.
The second season of 13 Reasons Why has proved equally controversial thanks to its finale episode.
In one scene a character is seen being brutally assaulted in a bathroom and is then sodomised with a broomstick by a group of male students.
