THE real ratings war for 2013 has officially begun.

After two killer nights of Channel Nine's new season of The Voice, it's clear Seven's My Kitchen Rules finally has some stiff competition.

Last night's episode saw The Voice soar in the ratings for the second night in a row, winning a massive 1.874 million viewers, while MKR managed to hold onto a modest 1.586m faithful fans.

Sunday night's debut episode of the much-hyped singing show raked in 1.828 million, compared to MKR's 1.406 million.

This means the previously-unbeatable cooking show is down 335,000 viewers from last Monday night.

Nine's season two debut of House Husbands - which scored a sizeable plug during Sunday night's Logies Awards - followed The Voice, grabbing 1.135m intrigued viewers, while Seven's Revenge dropped considerably on its 1.2m season average to 971,000 for its first episode and then 840,000 for episode two.

The Network heavyweights both brought in more than a quarter of the total TV audience each, with Nine grabbing 28.1 per cent, narrowly trumping Seven's 25.3 per cent.

The most surprising flop of the evening was Ten's The Biggest Loser Next Generation, which plummeted to just 552,000 viewers in the cut-throat 7.30pm timeslot, down from 849,000 on Sunday.

The real test will be whether or not the Nine Network can hold onto its winning numbers as MKR continues to up the ante by bringing back eliminated contestants. Typically, The Voice ratings do begin to slump after the current blind auditions wrap up.

The Voice unleashed a secret weapon last night in young contestant Harrison Craig. The 19-year-old from Melbourne, who has a speech impediment, blew the coaches away with his flawless rendition of Josh Groban‘s hit, Broken Vow.

We're guessing they've got plenty more dark horses lined up to send Delta, Seal, Joel and newcomer Ricky Martin into a tizz.
