SHE unleashed a tirade at Bindi Irwin over her comments on how young women should dress. Now Neighbours star Caitlin Stasey has opened fire again.

THE Australian actor at the centre of a recent Twitter feminism storm has told women to stop feeling guilty if they don’t have the “ideal body’’.

Caitlin Stasey, 24, said there was too much body shaming of women, including through photoshopping, and called on advertisers and corporations to stop making women “feel like failures’’.

“Women are objectified and sexualised, yet when they express themselves sexually of their own volition it becomes tasteless,’’ she said.

Caitlin Stasey says there is too much ‘objectifyin’g and ‘sexualising’ of women’s bodies.

“The ‘ideal’ body is everywhere you look and we are made to feel like failures by advertisers and corporations who shame us into buying their products.’’

She said photoshopping did not reflect reality; “all it does is reinforce negative attitudes women have toward themselves already’’.

The LA-based actor, known in Australia for her role in Neighbours, made headlines recently when she posted a topless selfie on Twitter as part of the #freethenipple campaign. This continued when she criticised wildlife warrior Bindi Irwin for remarks she made encouraging young girls to dress their age.

Stasey said many of her remarks had been taken out of context and had been simply trying to make the point that women need to have self-respect.

She said her advice to young women was to “live for yourself’’, not for others.

“Never stop fighting, do not accept mistreatment, sexism, gender bias or body shame,’’ she said. “Amplify the voices of the women around you, love your fellow woman and fight together.’’

She said she had been prompted to start tweeting in support of women’s rights because women were not “equal citizens globally’’.

Stasey caused a stir this week with tweets indicating that she used drugs. She said this was a joke in response to people calling her a “lunatic” and “off the rails”.

“My tweets were a joke in reference to ... the fact that if a young woman expresses outrage then she must be either on her period or on a drug binge,’’ she said.

“I also find the condemning of drug use by those who binge-drink every weekend incredibly hypocritical. I personally don’t drink and don’t really care if you do. I also don’t take synthetic drugs, but don’t care if you do.’’

She said she took the good with the bad on Twitter, where she has more than 50,000 followers.
