Block team Sarah-Jane and Tom accused of copying design by Shaynna Blaze

Block favourites Tom and Sarah-Jane have landed themselves in hot water after viewers noticed their kids’ bedroom design looked familiar.

In a shock twist, The Block’s golden couple Tom and Sarah-Jane have been accused of cheating.

The couple were slammed online after viewers spotted remarkable similarities between their kids’ nursery and the work of a well-known interiors company, Kate Walker Design.

Both rooms used a floral wallpaper on the ceiling and soft green wall-panelling, details for which the duo were praised by the judges during Sunday’s episode.

Judge Shaynna Blaze, who is an interior designer herself, wasted no time in calling out the similarities on Monday.

“We all take inspiration when we’re designing, but you have to change the source of that inspiration a minimum 30 per cent to be able to say it’s your design,” Shaynna posted.

“Since judging Sarah-Jane’s nursery, we have learned that the design was taken from amazing Victorian designer Kate Walker.”

Shaynna went on to point out that there was a “similar situation” in 2020 with Luke and Jasmin’s kids’ room, but they discovered it at the time and were able to address it on camera.

“The unfortunate reality is that it’s not possible for us to monitor every design that’s created and posted online. We could tell at the time of judging that the design execution of this room was next-level,” she added. “Now we understand why!”

She added that she had been in touch with the original designer, who was “very understanding” about the situation.

Defending the room, Sarah-Jane issued her own Instagram statement, declaring she had not intention of “ripping off” another designer.

“I posted over five days ago that I used her design as inspiration and that I wanted to replicate it. I am not a designer trying to rip off another designer’s work. I am a social worker who is building a house on a TV show and wanted that amazing room in the home.” she said.

Sarah-Jane has defended herself against copying allegations.

Elsewhere, viewers watched on Monday night as Tom and Sarah-Jane were rocked by the pressure of third-to-last week on The Block, exploding at each other in wild scenes.

“You look like you want to neck yourself for being in my presence,” Sarah-Jane said to Tom, who in turn called his wife “an absolute feral rat”.

The comment clearly rattled Sarah-Jane, who explained that she “hates” the word “feral”.

“I’ll show you feral,” she said. “I just hate that word. Call me crazy, call me a psychopath, but I’m not feral.”

“He does love me, and I love him deeply,” she later told producers.
