Beloved Sesame Street character Big Bird reveals he has received Covid jab

The beloved Sesame Street character has confirmed to fans that he’s now had the jab to “give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy”.

Big Bird has some big news.

“I got the Covid-19 vaccine today!” said a post from the Sesame Street character’s official Twitter account on Saturday.

Everyone’s favourite walking, talking, giant yellow bird is six years old, meaning he is finally eligible for the life saving jab, which was recently approved for kids aged 5 to 11 in the US.

Big Bird, Elmo and other Sesame Street characters also appeared on CNN for a Saturday morning program called The ABCs of Covid Vaccines.

Rosita, a furry, turquoise, Mexican monster, was also inoculated against Covid-19 on Friday.

Unfortunately, Elmo — who is just three — isn’t yet old enough to get his Covid shot.

“Elmo was so happy to talk to @DrSanjayGupta at the town hall today! Elmo learned that Elmo’s friends can get the Covid-19 vaccine now, and soon Elmo can too!” he tweeted early on Saturday.

While Big Bird was excited about getting the jab, Senator Ted Cruz seemed less than thrilled by it.

“Government propaganda … for your 5 year old!” the Texas Republican tweeted.
