An Aussie actor has revealed he is undergoing the painful process of tattoo removal after Netflix passed on him because of his sleeve tattoo.

In a TikTok video gone viral, Samuel Davies said he was cast as the body double of Colin Donnell’s character Tommy Merlyn on the TV series Arrow, but the streaming giant changed their minds as they didn’t want to have to cover his tattoos every day before filming.

“I liked my tattoos and I wanted to keep them but here’s the gimmick,” he began in the video, which has since got more than 37,000 views.

“I decided to change career and move into acting and that recently was a Netflix series where I had the job as the main actor’s double,” he shared. “And then they decided they didn’t want to take me on because they didn’t want to cover up my tattoos every single day, so I decided to start taking them off and it’s been a process of two years so far.”

Actor reveals Netflix rejected him over sleeve tattoo

Davies reveals he has had six gruelling sessions in the last two years, each costing him about $500 to $600 per session for his entire arm.

The newcomer paid $10,000 altogether for his sleeve tattoo and will now fork out roughly the same amount to have all traces removed.

“You do have to wait eight weeks between each session for it to heal and go back in,” explained Davies, who still needs to sit more sessions which takes about 45 minutes to an hour each time.

“The longer you wait, the more your body starts to eat the ink away. You can see that some spots have taken longer.”

In the video, Davies shared the meaning behind the tattoos he had inked over the years.

“So many stories behind the tattoos,” he said. “Got the clock here with the time that I was born. I’ve got me as a little gromit running up the stairs.”

He also has artwork in honour of late stars Bruce Lee and Kobe Bryant.

“My favourite martial artists and idol to look up to was Bruce Lee along with the Kobe Bryant,” he added.

“I got this before be passed away with the number 8, which is the number I’ve always worn playing basketball as well.”

Netflix’s decision to drop him from Arrow has not deterred the actor from pursuing a career in acting.

As the comments from his followers came flooding in praising him for his commitment to his craft, Davies told them that he has since been cast in more projects.

“Still acting and they’re much easier to cover up now they’re fading so much,” he said of his tatts. “Have been on a couple of movies and some TV series.”
