And Just Like That fans react to Carrie calling relationship with Big a ‘mistake’ as new love returns
Fans were left shocked after Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie, questioned if her relationship with Mr Big was a “mistake”.
Fans were left shocked after Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, questioned if her relationship with Mr Big was a “mistake” on Thursday’s episode of And Just Like That.
Carrie was head over heels for Big (played by Chris Noth) all throughout the original Sex And The City series, but their love affair came to an end on Season 1 of the AJLT spin-off – airing locally on BINGE – when he died from a heart attack in episode one.
Now that we’re in Season 2 and Carrie has just reconnected with her other great love Aidan (John Corbett), she is wondering if she should’ve chosen Aidan all along.
During a scene with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Carrie continues to gush about her rekindled romance with Aidan when she wonders: “Like I couldn’t or I wouldn’t allow myself to fully go there, just feel … I’m just wondering, was it always there and I just didn’t want to accept it? Miranda … I’ve been asking myself … was Big a big mistake?”

Miranda was floored with Carrie’s musing and stood there in silence, eventually replying: “I still don’t know what to say.”
The internet, however, had plenty to say about Carrie’s controversial remark, with Twitter blowing up with comments.
Iâm sorry but am I the only one is horrified that Carrie said that big might have been a big mistake??? Excuse me??? I donât like that, not one bit. #AJLT#AndJustLikeThatpic.twitter.com/VMBhzIMXrs

Literally sobbed when Carrie said Big was a mistake.

Never hated a character as much in my life as I did Carrie Bradshaw in that moment. #SATC#AJLT
Berger? A mistake. Alexander Petrovsky? A mistake.

Big? Not a mistake. Especially considering if he werenât dead sheâs still he married. #ajlt#AndJustLikeThatpic.twitter.com/9HivgQoUcn
Carrie wondering if Big was a mistake is WILD to me. wouldâve never thought she would utter those words #AJLTpic.twitter.com/j5y0NTdKdw

âI keep asking myself if Big was a big mistake.â CARRIE BRADSHAW. We did not spend 6 seasons, 2 movies, an entire season of the reboot of you grieving him for you to ask this question. #AJLT

Sorry, but Carrie must have a severe case of being Dickmatised to ask if her HUSBAND who has just DIED was a mistake after five weeks of banging Aiden. #AndJustLikeThat#AJLT

Donât get me wrong, I love Carrie and Aiden but Big was no mistake. He just wasnât. He was Carrieâs growth. #ajltpic.twitter.com/ZsAf92ttp3

Not ashamed to admit that I cried when Carrie said Big was a mistake. It hurt. A lot. #AndJustLikeThat#AJLT

The writers on the reboot felt the wrath of fans too, with some wondering why Carrie’s remark was even necessary:
This is what happens when you try to leverage fan service and nostalgia to correct writing, and Iâm sad to say itâs not paying off. Carrie & Aiden were never meant to work out and to have her say Big was a mistake means everything prior was a waste. #AndJustLikeThatpic.twitter.com/Z7hgG5msHi

I think this is an idiotic decision by the writers! The whole tv series âSex and the cityâ and two feature films Mr. Big was the love of her life, and now itâs just a mistake?!? Damn⦠And just like that, from a great love into a life-long mistake#andjustlikethat#sexandthecitypic.twitter.com/yDYOGaNv0a

However, many other Twitter users saw Carrie’s side:
"Was Big a big mistake?"

Me screaming at the tv: GIRL YES!!!!! #AndJustLikeThat
Big was a mistake. She should have chosen Aidan to begin with and left Big in the dust #AJLT

I really liked this episode. In other words, the marriage between Carrie and Big was not so, so good, if she always wondered if it had been a mistake, because she always felt inhibited by him. It's not something new in their relationship. #AndJustLikeThat#AJLT

This made my heart hurt. I honestly donât get it. When Big passed were they not on good terms? Was their marriage not good? Like ok Aidens back but Big being a mistake is wild. To say that when she cheated on Aiden, ok I get it. But yrs later???I mean I guess sheâs honest. #AJLThttps://t.co/Az3C44bDuj

Me: Duh bitch! #AJLT
I never got it. I really had a Big too though⦠He died in February
"Was big a big mistake?" This floored me tonight during #AndJustLikeThat! I found big so hard to like at times in #SATC. At the same time I'm glad Carrie said it!#AndJustLikeThatpic.twitter.com/JSzhSxcxzK

Backlash aside, Carrie and Aidan’s relationship appears stronger than ever as they switch their hotel rendezvous for Che Diaz’s Hudson Yards apartment, where they play house.
Later when helping the couple settle in, Che wonders where they went wrong in their relationship.
“Why did this not work out the first time?” the comedian asked the couple.
Adding insult to injury, Carrie replied: “’Cause I made a mistake.”
