Brisbane-born actor Jacob Elordi made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live over the weekend – and left some viewers in the US thoroughly confused.

The 26-year-old actor first found worldwide attention in US productions like Euphoria and The Kissing Booth film trilogy – both of which saw him using an American accent.

More recently, he had a starring role in the controversial Emerald Fennell film Saltburn – where he played a Brit – and will soon portray Elvis in Sofia Coppolla’s biopic Priscilla.

So when the rising star stepped out on the SNL stage over the weekend and greeted viewers with his natural Aussie accent, some in the US were understandably confused.

But others on social media had a different take, insisting Elordi was actually sounding less Australian than he used to, perhaps due to his years spent working in the US.

In a GQ interview last year, Elordi explained that the slight American twang to his Aussie accent had come about since spending a quarter of his 26 years in the US.

And before that, he’d been practising it since he was a teen, with a dream of becoming a Hollywood actor.

“I think I just wanted to be able to mimic the people that I thought were cool,” he told the outlet, confessing he initially modelled his American accent on Vin Diesel.

Elordi was supported at SNL by on-again, off-again girlfriend Olivia Jade Giannulli, despite recent reports the pair had broken up.

US Weekly had reported last week that the couple, who most recently rekindled their romance in May 2023, were no longer dating.
