A Current Affair reporter Seb Costello has appeared in court on two assault charges.

Mr Costello was allegedly involved in an altercation with a 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman in a Richmond laneway in Melbourne on February 11.

The usually suited-up Channel 9 reporter was dressed in a casual black top and appeared on a video link beamed into Melbourne‘s Neighbourhood Justice Centre on Wednesday morning.

Mr Costello stayed silent as a magistrate addressed the court.

“A conference has been conducted, the matter has not been resolved at this stage,” magistrate Lance Martin said.

The matter was adjourned until November 3 when a contest mention – a kind of preliminary hearing – will occur.

The magistrate also agreed to release a charge sheet to journalists.

The document, dated May 5, showed Mr Costello was charged with the unlawful assault of two people on February 11 this year.

Mr Costello, who is known for his interviews with alleged criminals outside courthouses, has previously said he will contest the charges.

The journalist is bringing in star lawyer Sam Norton to argue his case.

Mr Norton, who recently defended wife killer Borce Ristevski, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
