Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son Chet admits he was in rehab for cocaine after years of drug problems
TOM Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son, aspiring rapper Chet Haze, has revealed he was in rehab after years of secret drug addiction.
TOM Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son has gone public with his drug addiction.
Chester Hanks, an aspiring rapper who goes by the stage name Chet Haze, posted a message and video to social media coming clean about his struggle after learning tabloid Star magazine was going to publish a story about his stint in rehab for cocaine addiction.
“A tabloid is about to run a piece on me being in rehab for cocaine addiction. It’s true, and I’m currently 50 days clean and sober from everything, including alcohol,” he says in the video posted to Instagram.
“I’ve been struggling with substance abuse since I was 16 years old,” he wrote.
“Finally at the age of 24 I decided to get some help.
“With 50 days of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
While neither Hanks or Wilson have commented on their son’s troubles, it appears they’ve been supportive of him seeking help.
“I’m thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans,” Chet wrote. I’ve been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I’m learning to accept my faults and be OK with being human,” he wrote.
“If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out.”
Chet started out as a stoner in uni before graduating to cocaine, Star magazine reports, adding that he was in a California rehab centre a few months ago.
“Of course, this was devastating to his dad and mum, but they’ve done everything they can to help him, and fully supported him in his decision to get sober,” a source told the tabloid.
Chet is also half-brother to Dexter actor Colin Hanks, from Tom Hanks’ first marriage, to Samantha Lewes.
