Pippa Middleton’s Wedding: Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, plays matron-of-honour but let’s sister shine at wedding to James Matthews
PIPPA Middleton arguably showed her sister up at the royal wedding but the Duchess of Cambridge has done her best to let her younger sibling shine.
SHE made every effort to avoid the spotlight but Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge shone at her sister’s wedding in a pretty blush-pink ensemble from the same designer behind her wedding dress six years ago.
Kate looked every bit the elegant matron-of-honour at the private family affair, dazzling in a silk dress featuring a peplum waist and relaxed skirt from design house Alexander McQueen.
The 35-year-old royal kept the colour palette neutral with her favourite nude pump shoes and matching soft pink fascinator, with her famous mane swept up in an elegant chignon at the nape of her neck.
The world was given a glimpse of her outfit before the ceremony, with the Duke and Duchess snapped leaving Kensington Palace and driving themselves and their children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, two to the family wedding.
Kate’s sophisticated, pared-down look mimicked some of the iconic details of her McQueen wedding dress — which famously spawned the ‘Kate effect’ when she married Prince William back in 2011.
Her wedding dress brought lace long sleeves back into bridal fashion and ignited a copycat frenzy among fans desperate to mirror her every look.
The Duchess added extra sparkle to her bridal look wearing a 1936 Cartier halo tiara, loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II.
Kate’s Robinson Pelham earrings were a gift from her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton,
inspired by the family’s coat of arms and comprised a diamond-set stylised oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond set-drop and a pavé-set diamond acorn in the centre.
Her sister Pippa turned to the same jewellery house to craft her Maiden Hair fern bridal tiara with matching headpiece.
If anyone was going to upstage the bride or her regal sister, it was going to be pageboy Prince George and flower girl Princess Charlotte.
Looking like Little Lord Fauntleroy in white tights, gold knickerbockers and a collared silk shirt, George was on his best behaviour.
Besides his wedding duties, throwing rose petals and upping the cute factor, George also doted on his little sister Charlotte, who clutched a circle of baby’s breath and later a basket of petals.
Carole Middleton, 61, was every bit the glamorous mother of the bride in a pale pink coat style dress and broad-rimmed hat.
She walked into the ceremony on the arm of her dashing bachelor son, James, whose girlfriend, British broadcasting star Donna Air arrived separately.
Prince William, looking dapper in a satin waistcoat and red tie, joined his brother Prince Harry outside the church,
Not to be outdone by his bride’s famous in-laws, groom James Matthews looked handsome in grey pinstriped pants, petrol blue waistcoat and navy morning coat.
