Olivia Newton-John's daughter Chloe Lattanzi tells of drug spiral

SINGER Olivia Newton-John's daughter has come clean about getting clean as she revealed her battle with drink, drugs and depression.

SINGER Olivia Newton-John's daughter has come clean about getting clean as she revealed her battle with drink, drugs and depression.

The Australian singer and actor's 27-year-old daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, said she recently had intensive rehab to kick a reliance on cocaine and vodka, and treat spiralling depression.

"I was at a hotel in Santa Monica with my mum and some friends, and out of nowhere I had a complete meltdown. I'd been mixing alcohol and Xanax, and was in a semi-psychotic state," Lattanzi told UK newspaper the Mail on Sunday about an episode in September 2012.

"I was crying hysterically, freaking out and acting crazy."

Newton-John's only child, who herself had a burgeoning music career, claimed living in the shadow of her famous mother generated enormous pressure.

"Fame totally messes you up. I don't blame my mother for my problems, but I would never want to be famous or raise a child of my own around the cult of celebrity.

"It ruins lives.

"If there's one thing I've learned, it is that you can't be fragile in this business, or else you end up like Lindsay Lohan.

"That's not meant as an insult. I know she - and a lot of celebrities and celebrities' kids - are struggling with demons and addictions. It's disturbing that everyone wants to be famous these days.

"Our culture is sick."

Lattanzi said when she finally revealed the extent of her problems to Newton-John, her mother helped her through the crisis and immediately booked her into a rehabilitation clinic.

Lattanzi said she had earlier suffered an eating disorder from age 15 to 18, but the treatment centre she attended failed to provide lasting help because she simply replaced one addiction with another.

Despite growing up in the lap of luxury in a Malibu mansion, she said anxiety attacks and a failure to develop coping mechanisms led to problems as she dropped out of school to pursue a music career.

"The only way I knew how to deal with emotional stress was through self-harm. That's why I started doing drugs and drinking. I got to the stage where the first thing I did each morning was to do cocaine.

"I would be out partying every night at different Hollywood clubs, running into other young celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, and just partying the night away."

Newton-John, 65, and Chloe's father, Matt Lattanzi, divorced in 1995.
