Wild amount rock band makes from Christmas song
Believe it or not, this iconic holiday jingle rakes in way more than Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Christmas is around the corner, and festive music is flooding radio stations and shopping centres across the globe.
But one particular tune will be everywhere and anywhere – a holiday staple since the mid 80s.
Slade released their iconic hit Merry Christmas Everybody in 1985, which quickly rose to that year’s number one on the festive charts.
But decades later it’s remained a classic, bringing cheer to millions as well as big bucks to the band.
Penned by songwriter Noddy Holder and Slade musician Jim Lea, the tune, as of 2024, rakes in a whopping $2m every year in royalties, with the largest earning spike unsurprising being in December.
This brings Slade’s total royalties from the song to date up to an impressive $100m.
Mariah Carey‘s All I Want For Christmas Is You doesn’t even come close to this top spot, though her annual earnings are still incredible.
The songstress brings in $A806k per year from those enjoying her upbeat number.
