Which acts the bands want to see at Splendour in the Grass

SPLENDOUR in the Grass is kicking off tonight. But among the huge headline acts, there's a few who stand out as must-see from the artists themselves.

THE tents have been raised, the crowds are on their way and this year's epic line-up of acts are warming their vocal chords for three days of music mayhem at Splendour in the Grass.

Whether it's Mumford &Sons, Empire of the Sun, Bernard Fanning or The Presets you're hanging out to see, there's plenty to get each and every one of the 25,000 music lovers excited in Byron Bay this weekend.

But who are the artists themselves just dying to see live? We chatted to some of the festival's big acts about who's on their own Splendour wish list.

Alpine: The six-piece band of best mates from Australia who are responsible for hits such as Gasoline and Hands. This lot hit the stage on Sunday and promise fans there "will be an epic set, glam-inspired and with a fusion and energy of a variety of genres".

Most excited to see: The Naked and Famous, Matt Corby

Drapht: A resident Aussie hip hop legend who's been on our radar since 1998. This is the beatmaker who delivered the now-famous line: "Just like Erin McNaught, a little shorter" in hit single Rapunzel. The Perth-born artist (real name Paul Ridge) hinted he might be showcasing some of his brand new record during Saturday's live show.

Most excited to see: Frank Ocean

James Blake: This London-based music producer is a festival fave and promises he'll be treating fans to "a few of the songs he hasn't played in Australia yet".

Birds of Tokyo: This five-piece Perth band are having huge success with their latest album, March Fires. The boys are playing on Saturday along with The National, Empire of the Sun and Flume. Guitarist Adam Sparks says "Aussie fans are everything to us. They are literally our survival and we're really fortunate that fans have come along for this long ride."

Sarah Blasko: Back in the country after a whirlwind tour of Europe, this Aussie beauty has hit all the right notes with her latest album, the incredibly daring 'I Awake'. Blasko couldn't be more excited for this weekend, which will be her fifth Splendour gig. She says playing at a festival "is far more energetic than any other shows - there's a completely different energy."

Most excited to see: Bernard Fanning

Mumford &Sons: Our favourite folk rock band is back in Australia to headline the main stage tonight. They've had a monster 12 months following the release of the incredibly beautiful 'Babel' and the boys are so stoked to be a part of the Splendour ride. They've travelled all the way from London for their two-hour set. "Australia is very close to our heart. This festival is an honour and our amazing fans have been so supportive to us", band member Ben Lovett tells.
