Updates

And that's all she wrote

Alright everyone, been a whole heap of fun hanging out with you all day but that's the end of our Hottest 100 live blog.

We've seen records broken, new debutants and some old favourites this year.

We also saw an all-Australian top 10! (If you allow yourself to be a bit creative about the criteria).

Thanks so much for joining us today, it's time to throw our last YEW and head off.

History made as Billie Eilish wins the countdown

18-year-old Los Angeles artist Billie Eilish has become the first solo female act and the youngest person to win the Triple J Hottest 100.

She also equalled Wolfmother's record six songs in one countdown.

She took out the title for her infectious hit bad guy.

The song features a sample of a Sydney traffic light so we're using the same creative accounting that had us calling Denzel Curry's Bulls On Parade an Australian song to call this one too.

"That's crazy," Ms Eilish said in her post win interview, from the bedroom where she wrote the song.

"Thank you guys for that, that's insane," she added.

"I love Australia, I've only had good experiences there," the teenager said. "It's so sad what's happening there."

She said she's relaxing ahead of the Grammys where she'll probably pick up a couple more accolades.

Flume of course makes an entry

Hottest 100 favourite Flume has placed at number two with his song Rushing Back with fellow Aussie Vera Blue.

While that's only number two, Flume is reportedly, a really good guy.

Mallrat takes number three

Brisbane pop queen Mallrat has taken the third spot with Charlie.

Huge number of Aussies in the top 10 but with two spots left and only one predicted song (bad guy) remaining, we're all scratching our heads about what could be next.

Tones And I settles for fourth

Dance Monkey, a hot favourite to win, has appeared at number four instead, much to the relief of people who were probably singing its praises before the song went mainstream (thus losing its appeal) and shot the multi-ARIA award winner to fame and success.

Tones also had Johnny Run Away at number 26 and Never Seen The Rain at number 15.

Hot favourite Denzel Curry at number five

Denzel Curry's Bulls On Parade was tipped as a potential winner but it's kicked off the top five instead.

In doing so he breaks the record for highest placed Like A Version, beating former record holder DMA's.

He equals highest placed cover, which Spiderbait won when Black Betty came in at number five in 2004.

While this puts an end to the streak of Australian songs in the top 10 (the Florida rapper covers a song by California band Rage Against The Machine) the song was recorded in the Triple J studios for Like A Version.

Many have been pointing out that our taxpayer dollars are paying for this countdown so if you're still committed to that argument go ahead and count this one as an Australian song. The dream lives!

G Flip continues all Australian top 10

The dream lives! G Flip coming in at number six with Drink Too Much (in the words of American rapper Logic "who can relate?").

This is the Melbourne muso's fourth song in the countdown.

She had I Am Not Afraid at 77, Stupid at 66 and Lover at 58.

Two Robberys in the Hottest 100

Australian band Lime Cordiale has kept the all Aussie top 10 going for one more song, with their track Robbery.

Rapper Juice WRLD (R.I.P) came in at 42 with his song of the same name.

While both songs deal with similar themes (namely, a woman stealing the singer's heart), Juice WRLD's track was released several months beforehand.

We are sure it's a coincidence because we have listened to music before and there are only like, five things you can write a song about.

Jungle Giants continue all Aussie top 10

The Jungle Giants kept the futile dream of an all Australian top 10 alive with their entrance at number 8 with Heavy Hearted.

Sure we can hope, but since we haven't heard bad guy or Bulls On Parade yet, it's unlikely we'll be seeing a particularly patriotic close to the countdown.

Thelma Plum breaks a record but hopes it won't stand

Thelma Plum's Better in Blak was a hot pick for the top five, but it's come in at number nine.

Probably the last we'll see of her in the countdown, but she also had Not Angry Anymore come in at 78 and Homecoming Queen at 65.

While the song features the lyric "if I had lighter skin maybe I would win", this is a reference to her experiences as an Indigenous woman and not the Hottest 100.

In an interview with Music Feeds last year, she said the song was "about my experiences with people trying to take the colour from the conversation. My colour is an important part of who I am, and over the last couple of years I’ve had people try and tell me 'it’s not about colour' when obviously to me it is."

"I wrote this for Aboriginal women, and especially with tomorrow coming up, you know Invasion Day…" the singer said in a post song interview.

Having been informed she now holds the record for highest entrance by an Indigenous woman, she said she hopes the record is broken soon.

"To be honest I hope I don't keep that for a long time."
