The hardest-working band in rock, Foo Fighters, tease fans with hints of an Australian visit

FOO Fighters fans are revving their engines after a teasing message from the hardest-working band in rock. What’s happening, Dave?

Foo Fighters guitarist and vocalist Dave Grohl goes off during an intimate gig at Goat Island, Sydney Harbour.
Foo Fighters guitarist and vocalist Dave Grohl goes off during an intimate gig at Goat Island, Sydney Harbour.

DAVE Grohl may be the hardest-working, nicest man in rock’n’roll.

The Foo Fighters frontman is also a big tease.

The band posted a cryptic message directed to Australian fans on Facebook today, teasing a visit.

“Hey AU/NZ pals ... It’s been WAYYY too long. If you want to make sure to stay up on all the news ... Sign up by clicking the envelope here: www.foofighters.com

Cause you never know where/when the Foo’s may show up. Just sayin ...”

Of course this post sparked a flurry of speculation that the band are heading back our way. Which they will do. Eventually.

The Foos are celebrating their 20th anniversary by writing and recording their eighth studio record and filming the process for an HBO series.

Inspired by his film Sound City, which told the story of the famed Los Angeles studio where Nirvana recorded Nevermind, Grohl and the band have visited iconic American music cities including Seattle, Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York and Washington, D.C. for the new record.

The frontman interviewed seminal musicians in each city seeking inspiration and then wrote and recorded a song with the band.

“After making Sound City, I realised that the pairing of music and documentary works well because the stories give substance and depth to the song, which makes for a stronger emotional connection,” Grohl told Billboard.

“So I thought, ‘I want to do this again, but instead of just walking into a studio and telling its story, I want to travel across America and tell its story.’”

It would be unlikely the band would head here to add an Antipodean flavour to the new album but Grohl always heads to Australia to personally introduce each new album to the record label and media.

While we could expect him here for a chatfest in November, the Facebook tease seems designed simply to update the band’s database for now.
