A group of lucky students have won the opportunity of a lifetime to meet Sir Paul McCartney as he kicks off his tour Down Under.

Senior music students from Suncoast Christian College in Queensland have been announced as the winners of Frontier Touring’s #GotBackToSchool competition.

The win has secured the Suncoast Senior Band an exclusive photo opportunity with the former Beatle, as well as access to both the sound check and the Gold Coast concert next Saturday.

Over 40 music classes from across the country entered the competition, with Suncoast Christian College coming out on top with their cover of “Maybe I’m Amazed”.

Sir Paul has been left in awe of the students’ performance and says he’s looking forward to meeting them next weekend at Heritage Bank Stadium.

“I’m really amazed by the fact that these kids have learned my song and perform it so well. Thanks guys. Look forward to seeing you at my show!” he said.

Singer and pianist for the ensemble, Jacob Wiener, expressed his joy that the global music icon has taken an interest in supporting the next generation of musicians.

“It is so inspiring that legends of the music world are invested into our generation of music students through promotions such as this,” the year 11 student said.

“We are all so excited and thankful to Paul McCartney for this once in a lifetime opportunity!

“We chose the song ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ as we felt it was a great representation of Paul’s outstanding solo career after The Beatles.

“We love playing music at Suncoast whenever we can, but this opportunity will certainly be remembered as a special one.”

McCartney, 81, has already played two electric shows in Adelaide and Melbourne that have received nothing less than rave reviews.

Flaunting a set of almost 40 songs, the audience is taken on a journey throughout McCartney’s career.

From his days as vocalist and bassist of The Beatles, to Wings and his solo work, McCartney is bringing everything to the stage as he marks his first time in Australia since 2017.

The Fab Four legend will bring his tour to Newcastle next, playing at McDonald Jones Stadium tomorrow night.

His Newcastle show will be followed by two nights at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium this Friday and Saturday before he brings the Australian leg of his tour to a close at Suncorp Stadium and Heritage Bank Stadium next week.
