Michael Buble postpones Australian tour three weeks out from first concert

Michael Buble has postponed his Australian tour less than three weeks out from the first show, and his reasoning has sparked mounting backlash.

Michael Bublé slammed over controversial Instagram Live

Michael Buble has postponed his Australian tour less than three weeks before it was due to kick off.

The 47-year-old Canadian singer was set to perform nine stadium shows around the country, starting in Newcastle on November 30, but he announced he was forced to push back the dates back until June 2023 on social media overnight due to “logistical issues”.

“Despite our best efforts, my team and I have come to realise that global logistical issues have made it impossible for us to deliver the show that I feel Australians deserve,” Buble wrote in a statement.

“Although it’s completely disappointing for all of us, I wanted to be transparent with you and hope you can understand what a difficult decision this was to make.”

Fans have reacted in fury at the last-minute cancellation, with many complaining they’d booked flights and accommodation for the shows, which were taking place in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle and Perth.

“Australia’s main airline and hotels won’t issue refunds or credits,” one fan wrote with an angry face emoji, with another adding, “Christmas is ruined.”

A third said, “Why is it so hard, logistically, to come here? That’s just not fair.” Another questioned, “Why would I trust you again?”

“Sounds rather off. A tour planned and booked months in advance. Just weeks before being sue to start. Sorry to be sceptical for such a pathetic excuse,” a fifth lamented.

While many ticketholders said they’d be getting a refund, with countless people expressing their disappointment there’d likely be no Christmas songs for a June concert, other diehard Buble fans said they were happy to wait until June.

“Looking forward to June 2023 … You’re worth the wait,” one said. “See you in June Mr Buble!!!”

“Anyone who knows Mike knows this was not an easy decision for him to make as his fans mean everything to him” a third weighed in.

Buble first announced the tour in March, after dropping his 11th studio album, Higher.

At the time, he said in a statement: “I have been touring Australia for 20 years now and the fact that you all keep turning up to my shows makes me feel like the luckiest man alive. I absolutely adore performing live, being on stage is complete and utter enjoyment for me. It’s a great pleasure and honour for me to be able to show up and be made feel so welcome.”

The multi Grammy award winner lives in Vancouver with his wife Luisana Lopilato and their children.

The couple, who have been married since 2011, welcomed their fourth child, daughter Cielo Yoli Rose, in August.
