Madonna is filming her two Sydney concerts this weekend, the second time she’s shot in the Harbour City
HEY Sydney: are you ready for your close-up? Madonna is filming her two Rebel Heart shows this weekend for a DVD release.
MADONNA will film her Sydney concerts this Saturday and Sunday.
The Sydney dates are also the final dates of her entire Rebel Heart world tour.
It will be the second time Madonna has recorded concerts in Sydney — the superstar recorded the Sydney leg of her Girlie Show in 1993. The footage was eventually released as Madonna Down Under on a VHS (that was the format before DVDs, kids) and a US pay-for-view special.
The Sydney shows will be filmed by Danny B Tull and Nathan Rissman, who have worked on Madonna’s feature films and tour movies in the past.
Website Broadwayworld.com says the Sydney footage will “be part of a larger project to be released at a later date.”
Madonna also professionally filmed her Tears of a Clown fan show in Melbourne last week, with those entering agreeing to a disclaimer on entry they may be on film.
Eager Madonna fans have been waiting for the superstar to film shows on the Rebel Heart tour, with the singer waiting until the last possible minute.
It means whoever Madonna pulls on stage for Unapologetic Bitch will be captured for posterity.
In Melbourne she got drag superstar Courtney Act on stage on Saturday night, then audience member Bianca the second night.
Overseas celebrities including Amy Schumer, Graham Norton, Katy Perry and Idris Elba have featured in the segment.
Madonna fans are now wondering if the singer will opt for local celebrities or local fans.
It follows Madonna answering back to claims she had a “meltdown” in Melbourne and was drunk on stage.
Madonna posted on Instagram: “Too bad people don’t know the art of acting and playing a character. I could never do any of my shows high or drunk. And yes, underlying all of this is sexism and mysongony (sic) which proves that not only do we not get equal pay but we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside of the box. Sexism is alive and kicking ...”
Some fans thought Madonna spelt misogyny to look like ‘my song agony’ in reference to her custody battles over son Rocco.
The Rebel Heart tour has played over 80 shows around the world over seven months.
It is Madonna’s first visit to Australia in 23 years.
Madonna plays Brisbane Entertainment Centre tonight and tomorrow before heading to Sydney.
